Yea, they come unpainted, and unassembled when it comes to bigger ones like the vehicles and Titan scale units.

I think the pricing was completely market driven. It started out as a niche hobby for adult collectors (because of the need to assemble + paint and so forth), and GW had too much free reign with the pricing. Since the collectors were usually adults, they had the ability to just boost prices.

You see the same thing happening in the collectible market for adults in general today. The pricing for figures in that market segment is going out of control. One can only hope that people become a bit cautious and refrain from buying them, and the prices will stabilize as a result.
