Agreed. For all his stellar work on X-Men in the "All-New, All-Different" era through to the 90s, every time he returned to mutant books, it felt like sad attempts by Marvel to catch lightning in a bottle a second time. His work on the "Revolution"-era books, his run on Wolverine (*coughSecretMarriageToVipercough*), the Excalibur/Exiles stuff... I can't speak of his run on X-Treme X-Men, since I never read it, but either way, his later work doesn't have the 'oomph'.

That was right around the same time. A bit after Psylocke joined was when the whole team got shaken up so Claremont could "start fresh", with only Morph and AoA Sabretooth staying on.

Nope, that's Gateway. Sage, AKA Tessa, was Sebastian Shaw's right-hand woman back in the Hellfire Club, who turned out to be a mole for Xavier, and joined up with the X-Men proper in the 2000s.
