Nimrod is certainly a badass and I was also there for the ride when he was first created, as JRJR's run on X-men was one of my first dedicated weekly books. Romita Jr. is one of my favorite artists of all time and I essentially followed him from book to book for most of my reading life.

Now, I wouldn't refer to myself as either an authority nor a super-fan of the character (that's reserved for the likes of Surfer/Spidey, Hulk, Namor, Dr. Strange etc - not really, but I'd like to believe so), however I'm real familiar with Nimrod and he's just not as durable as Legend(s) (yuk, yuk...see that?) would have it -

From his debut appearance, we see an inexperienced Rogue absorb the powers of neutralized team members (Kitty, Nightcrawler, and Colossus) to send him packing in singular combat ultimately forcing him to retreat from the field:

A few issues later, Nimrod emerges once again as a world beater, but also gets overwhelmed...again:

https://www.turboimagehost.com/p/19991213/12.png.html (Aided by the element of surprise, Peter proceeds to to thrash him about like a rag doll doing significant damage - it's important to note that at this point Peter could only press 70-75 tons and had not been gravely injured by Riptide - meaning, he hadn't received his first strength augmentation)

https://www.turboimagehost.com/p/19991214/13.png.html (Taking this type of punishment and such obvious visible damage makes me a bit dubious of Nimrod being class 100 - to be fair, one can be strong, while not being invulnerable - it definitely calls in to question the character's ability to take punishment)

Here's a more recent, but still old Nimrod battle in which he's doing his thingee thang looking all impressive and shit, until he isn't, ultimately getting bested - semi easily - by a collection of neophyte X-men pups -

Now, don't get me wrong, I truly dig me some Nimrod and have been waiting for this fig just as long as anyone and I am very happy to finally have it. However, contrary to what some may believe, I don't just spout off hackneyed shit. If I say something, I'm saying it out of reference to some experience or understanding. I wouldn't classify things I share as canonical law, pfft, yeah, riiiight, but they're generally sourced to some type of degree.

Long live Nimrod...or, at least, may he always retreat in a timely manner after having his ass handed to him...*jokes!
