You think that because you’ve been taught it’s okay to hate. Maybe some of the mainstream messaging about tolerance and inclusivity have seeped in over the years, but mostly you’ll dismiss it as “liberal bullshit” or somesuch because your family and friends have either been radicalized or thoroughly desensitized and conditioned to be complacent. They don’t take racism seriously and some of them may be pretty overt racists. But it’s ok, because they’re your people and they have a legitimate gripe about what was taken away from them, amirite?

Ask James Byrd Jr or Matthew Shepard how harmless hate is.
