And if NECA could make a Pacific Rim Otachi for $80 and then reuse 70% of the parts for a version with folded wings I struggle to reconcile that they couldn't have done something similar with Ghidorah, the main villain of King of the Monsters.

Also, this exists.
$1600!
US Box Office was only $110 Million. It had a near 68% drop in its second weekend. Movie studios, and US merchandisers (for better or worse) really only pay attention to US box office, unless a specific international market significantly outperforms the others. an example of that was Pacific Rim's performance in China, which was 1/3rd of the total box office. And looking at home video/merchandising sales in hindsight isn't the same as trying to project future sales based on a poor US box office.

And you can't compare Prime 1 to NECA at all. Prime 1 is a company that only sells low run, high cost statues and busts. Their items are priced withe the intent on selling between 500 and 1,000 pieces in most cases.

For Otachi, you're missing one huge change between 2015 and 2019, and that's the loss of Toys R Us. NECA had a huge presence there, as TRU was their main brick and mortar retail outlet. NECA's allocated shelf space was fairly large. Had TRU still been around in 2019, I suspect Ghidorh would have most likely been made.
