In this case, the tool is the mold they cast the final plastic parts from, and the sintering is me typing the wrong word as I'm falling asleep. I guess I had 3D printing on the brain because I meant "sparking". It's a method of cutting the tool, a CNC machine with an electrode instead of a drill, that sparks away parts of the mold to create all the shapes. It also leaves a kind of sandy texture to the surface. It can be polished away, but sometimes it's left behind. On my K't'inga model kit it really helps the paint stick!

And that texture is all over the new He-Man toys. The Revelations were especially unusual in that they polished the body part molds to a high shine without getting rid of texture, while the heads were polished to a smooth finish. I assume they needed the extra detail, or the tampo wouldn't sit flat otherwise, something like that
