The '92 cowl may be a touch more refined, but there are plenty of differences. The organic clavicle doesn't mesh with the more angular face, the scallops no longer align with the cape, and it has a totally different silhouette. The "bat cowl stretched over a thumb" look changes the character's posture from stoic to stiff

I'll be upfront: as much as I love Steve Wang, I kind of hate the Returns suit, cowl included. But this isn't about personal preferences at all, it's about fidelity and this cowl is inappropriate. I mean, would you be chill with a Tech Noir Arnie sporting a Genisys headsculpt, or Jedi Luke coming with Vader's saber because you prefer the color red?
