You're right. And I get it. That makes sense for forcing (heh) lighting effects in film. But it's totally weird on a finished display piece. It just looks like a mistake in deco application.

Sometimes designers get so stuck in their bubble that they lose perspective. If they are only showing the proposed designs to colleagues withing their design group the final product can become a situation in which they are drinking their own Kool Aid.

During the the Livestream the team seemed as if they were trying to convince themselves their design decisions were the best route. "You guys just don't know how excited we are." was said several times. And they are probably sincere. But after the third or fouth reiteration the sentiment seemed forced (bad pun totally intended). To me, anyway.
