He's going to go where the money is at because, a) Like most normal people, he likes money and money is what makes the world turn, and B) He has a multi-million dollar payroll and other overhead that has to be paid every 2 weeks (in regards to payroll) and every month (for expenses and some cases as little as 10 days at the time of services being rendered...every vendor is different although most do a standard 30 days to pay). If you're releasing a bunch of figures that aren't selling at all or very few then you're going to lay off employees because you can't pay them and eventually you'll have to close the doors because you can't pay the rent/lease or anything else. While agree he needs to dramatically cut down on the variants double and triple dips, there's also a chance that he simply can't do it because he isn't Mattel or Hasbro huge. He also has contract limitations set by places like DC/WB when it comes to DC releases. Every wave must have at least one Batman figure and he can't include trigger weapons of any kind with anything. He can get around the trigger weapons by releasing weapons packs that contain items specifically made for certain characters. His Spawn weapons pack just got released and it has the two hand guns that were supposed to be included with Red Hood and it has 2 more handguns meant for one of the jokers. The rest are assorted weapons most likely meant to be paired with a specific figure in DC and/or other lines with that limitation. At the end of the day, it's his company but he can't necessarily do whatever he wants when it comes to a lot of the decisions made and those so-called 1990s quirks he has also must be selling because if they didn't he wouldn't continue to do them.
I’m not the only guy who thinks this about Todd and I’m surprised you feel as if he’s in the right with his ethics and you are entitled to your opinion but you need to take a lot into consideration before saying females don’t sell, end of story.
Maybe they didn’t sell well in the past couple of years because companies couldn’t care enough to make them look good. Remember the toybiz, original Hasbro, and original Mattel ladies and how they were lanky and had really weird proportions, and if you did your research you would know that is probably we’re those stats are coming from.
Just look at how good the recent marvel legends ladies have sold when the company actually put effort into them (Scarlett witch, sylvie, captain carter, tigra, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson, spider woman, mystique, Emma frost, binary, classic rouge, may Parker spider girl, Typhoid Mary, scream, ect.). When companies listen to the fans and try to improve they will sell.
Plus when Todd actually chooses to make a female it’s usually just Wonder Woman in a outfit she’s only worn once that no one cares for.
And please don’t give me that whole he cares about money shit, Hasbro even though they jacked up prices, for the most part listens to us and makes obscure characters that are wanted by the serious fans no matter how badly they might think they will sell.
Anyways I’m done with the rant, don’t want to hurt Todd’s male pride.
