This is an interesting item I have. I found this while clearing some items in my garage that I took when I moved into my own place. It's a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em set of Superman and Metallo made back in 2006. I played the heck out of it when my siblings and parents and even myself, and I used Superman and Metallo as action figures until I got some DCSH & DCUC Superman figures. So the wear and tear do show on this item, but it's still a cool thing to have. I'll have a new purpose as a centerpiece on a Superman-themed, DC-themed, or just any display I decide to do in the future that I could use it in.
Two perspectives.
The functionality. Standard Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em push the two buttons to control the fist and take out the opponent.
Superman has a presure plate beneath his logo that causes his head to tilt back when it's struck by Metallo.
Metallo's pressure plate is just a button on his chest. I would've prefered it if it was his Kryptonite Heart instead of just a bland presure plate on his chest. I do like that Metallo's head does pop up like a Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em robot's head, making it clear he's a machine.
Part of the wear and tear on this set is now only the right hands work on this set, the left ones don't. Metallo's left hand doesn't punch at all and Superman's cause him to pop out of position. That's why I'm holding his foot down in the photo. Yes, I'm a white guy.
Here are closer looks at the characters. Metallo looks cool for the most part. Still disappointed that he doesn't have his signature Kryptonite heart. Also, his eyes are red instead of green. So he basically looks like a Terminator or a BAT without the COBRA attire on. Superman looks like Superman, nothing much to say about his look other than it's good. The characters seem to be in the 6" to 7" scale range here's the Superman with the DCUC Superman, they're about the same height. The RESE Superman may be taller than the DCUC by an inch or two.
For fun I had the DCUC Superman fight both combatants.
Now for some fun, I decided to use the set to create a boxing-style match where Heroes and Villains bet on who will win. In Superman's corner, we have Batman, Duke, and Spider-Man. In Metallo's corner, we have Joker, Cobra Commander, and Hammerhead.
Superman wins the villains are mad that they lost while the heroes celebrate their victory.
