I think it was that he was ‘boyish’ in presentation and that resonated with teen fans more so than older Green Lanterns like Alan, Hal, and John. His book was also written well and featured inclusion in a way that felt organic, not forced. And finally, his skills as an artist in conjunction with the power of the ring to create constructs was very meta and made for some wild images; this wasn’t your dad’s Green Lantern making giant tennis rackets with which to swat enemies.
