The classic timeline and prime are the same thing. In fact, there is not really such a thing as the classic timeline, no one uses that term. There is Prime and there is Kelvin. 'Picard' is in the Prime timeline, his Kirk was William Shatner. From TOS through to 'Picard' is a simple straight line.

Old Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is from the Prime timeline. In the first JJ movie he is sent back in time. There, he witnesses the destruction of the USS Kelvin, which did not happen in the Prime timeline. Thus Prime Spock is now in the Kelvin timeline.
