We knocked out the two Amazing movies today.

1 - I have so many mixed feelings on this one. They tried to go darker with Spider-Man and make it more serious, which just doesn't work. Garfield was completely miscast as Peter as his Peter is terrible. He's too cool to be Peter. Peter is not supposed to be riding around on a skateboard. Alternatively, I love how much quipping he does. His scene messing with the car jacker is just superb. Anyway, on one hand, I understand why they didn't repeat the same origin story for Peter being a wrestler, on the other, not doing it took away the impact of him being responsible for Ben's death. Not to mention they completely dropped that plot point before the last act as he never found the culprit and the dude is never mentioned again. Connor's Lizard plot moves at too quick of a pace and feels half-baked. Now I do like the fact that they had Gwen instead of MJ and Stone was perfect casting for her. Perhaps the only actor that feels spot on. I also like that she wasn't a damsel in distress. It's not a bad film, but now having the Raimi movies completely fresh in my mind, it's not good either. The soundtrack is especially subpar. However, it's slightly better than Raimi 3.

2 - This is the first time I have watched this film since I saw it in theaters 10 years ago and everything I liked before, I still liked. Everything I hated then, was even worse now. So what is good about this one? Well the chemistry between Stone and Garfield remains spectacular. I love seeing Peter do science with trying to figure out how to stop his webshooters from getting destroyed by Electro. The soundtrack is an improvement over the first one. And finally, the fight scene are well shot and well choroegraphed. I loved the shots of Spidey diving down and how the camera follows him.

The bad? Well, practically everything else. The actor they got for Harry is atrocious and phones in his entire performance. His characterization makes no sense and I don't get why they killed Norman off minutes after debuting him. I still can't believe they bothered to have Giamatti come in for Rhino and have him act like some low rent amateur from a talent show. He clearly was there to collect a paycheck and nothing more. Ripping off Batman Forever for Electro was a big mistake and, like with Giamatti, completely undermined Foxx's talent. Aunt May is bad, really bad. Perhaps the worst iteration of her ever. The character designs are awful, I thought Harry's wannabe Rocket Racer motif in Raimi 3 was crap, but this Goblin design was adverse. The plot is a convoluted mess, but worse, like with Raimi 3, it's so fucking boring!! I also felt it was too soon to kill Gwen off.

I will most likely never watch this duo again as they are not worth your time.
