This is actually probably more DC's doing than Spin Masters'. We forget that some licensors like DC heavily dictate product-planning. I've no doubt DC Consumer Products/"Licensing" or whatever has been noticing the Super Powers line's sales success and are drawing the conclusion that "retro sells!" They probably asked their licensees for retro ideas. DC may have even come up with the idea for a Forever Retro line themselves. For all we know, they could've approched McFarlane first about a Forever line, but McFarlane turned it down or couldn't do it. At any rate, you'll notice there's a Retro look to Mezco's Bat-stuff with the packaging for the TAS and Batman '89 stuff mimicing the lines from the 80s and 90s, and word is other retro product lines are coming from DC. I think the prevailing notion in the toy business right now is that there's money to be made in "retro."

Collectors who came of age in the 90s will probably dig it. I was done with toys by the 90s, and didn't even see Batman Forever when it came out, so there's no nostalgia in this style of action figure or the film for me. I'll maybe buy the Batmobile if I find it on clearance to add to my Batmobile stable I use for Super Powers, but it's not even close to being one of my favorite Batmobiles, so it's not a priority or a must-buy.
