Yeah, i guess I'm not completely wowed by this like most are...to me it just looks like a very well done custom. Which I guess is good enough, yeah. But, I would've been more receptive if they incorporated some of the Frazetta art idiosyncrasies into the sculpt..things like his tendancy to make the mouth line noticeably low on his male faces with barely there, thin lips. Which is something that carried over into the animation. A couple of other things too.

I can appreciate where you are coming from, it is does miss on some of the accents from the ‘toon. However, it appears like they’ve captured most of the notes from the poster art, namely the belt design, wrist guards and the hyper-musculature of Dark Wolf. (he had softer muscles, different belt, and fur armbands in the rotoscoped presentation) It’s seems to be more of an interpretation than a faithful representation of Frazetta’s style, which would be hard to achieve, in my opinion. All that said, they had me at ‘Fire and Ice’ ANYTHING as I’ve been waiting for merch from one of my all-time favorite animations and, as a Bakshi fan, this is a double dip. Obviously, I’m hoping for a Teegra, at the very least, but also want Larn, Nekron, and Roleil (if I can be greedy in my wants). Additionally, this Dark Wolf will slot in nicely within my Mythic Legions collection; along with Red Sonja, I finally have some protagonists for the 4H figs I have.

Did you see the Legions Lounge episode with Sara from Frazetta Girls who said Teegra is coming next?
It will be interesting to see how she translates to action figure form, since she doesn't have any clothing to conceal otherwise unsightly modern action figure hip joints.
After Teegra I hope we see other (not Fire and Ice) designs. But later come back to Fire and Ice again. I just want to see some other designs (which aren't also Death Dealer).

No, I don’t consume toy media outside of here and The Fwoosh, so I was unaware of the podcast until you mentioned it. That’s good to know, thanks! I assume Teegra could be done in a similar fashion to LooseCollector’s/Executive Replicas Vampirella and Purgatori. While, I love the fact that we’re getting Fire and Ice stuff, I agree that a deeper exploration of Frazetta’s work would be more ideal. That said, if they make Teega, then Larn must also be made. Also, I DO want Death Dealer!

It's worth a watch/listen if you are a fan of Frazetta, they spend more time talking about his art than they do the action figure.

^Haha!

But, yes, sounds like the podcast may be worth tracking down.

For me, Frazetta, at this point, has been over explained lol. So I don't really seek out & listen to podcasts talking about him. But, I will say any podcast that Sara has been on has usually been good & informative. Her insights really humanize the guy and I like how frank (no pun intended) she has been about certain aspects of his life & work. Like his claims about never using reference, which I always found silly anyway lol.

I felt the same way, I've read that many books about him and his art I didn't feel the need to listen to interviews with his granddaughter. But she doesn't idealise him or mythologise him and the anecdotes she shares often aren't in the books or are told from a different perspective to other tellings.

For ease of reference:

Have you guys seen this? Apparently the boots and all other clothing components will be removable! Boots are sleeved on over the calves. Eamon O'Donoghue (the project manager) is manning the booth says,"Everything comes off. You can make him totally naked." Whaaaaaat?!?!

I suppose that means they're going to be re-using the Darkwolf buck (or parts of it) for other characters. Though Larn, Nekkron and the subhumans arent really the muscular barbarian type that Darkwolf is. I wonder if they're already planning for figures beyond the movie.

In the vid lordbest shared (thanks for that. It's good) they talk about that. Teegra is the next figure and Sara even mentions Darkwolf's horse.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to this. Not only is it a well executed character likeness but, they do some really new and interesting things with articulation schemes and accessory build outs. A lot of potential here for customization.

I bought him from Frazetta Girls. He was $70 there as opposed to $94 at BBTS.

Yeah the bicep articulation is really impressive in particular, getting that twist without a big bicep cut is great.

It really is. I love that the legs sheath into the boots. I doubt I'll ever remove them but, it's cool just knowing it's there LOL

I received my Dark Wolves today and I am happy...

There are some articulation things, but pretty good for a first outing.

I agree. It actually has a lot more range than I expected. Especially in the torso. I wish Classified used a similar torso articulation scheme.

The torso joint was executed perfectly, but that shoulder joint isn't as brilliant as I had hoped it would be and the lack of shin and ankle swivels creates posing limitations. Still a very solid figure with room for improvement.

Mine is sitting in my Pile of Loot waiting to be shipped, very excited for it. The lack of ankle swivel is surprising and not great, hope they address that in future figures.
There was talk of them formally announcing Teegra after this figure started reaching customers so fingers crossed we see her soon.

I got a more range out of the shoulder by applying a little heat. It will swivel under/into the torso. Still not the greatest but better than I thought. He has difficulty holding his bow with arrow nocked "at the ready". Which sucks.

His leg can rotate in/out at the knee but, that can look a little funny. The ankle rocker and cut joint are deep though.

I got a couple of 3D printed swords from a dude on eBay (Lightning.Count.Customs). I really wanted to give Dark Wolf a 2-handed sword. Painted another one while I was at it.

EDIT: Unfortunately due to the limits of articulation he cannot properly wield a two-handed sword. WAH-WAAAAAAAAAH
