If you're looking for a comic that kicks ass and will always go up in value, get Iron Man #55- I bought mine back when no one knew about it (as part of my run of Iron Man- 1-300!). It's a little story by Jim Starlin, back when he was only writing part time and, though he had all these great ideas, Marvel had never given him a shot...then called him to write and draw a fill in issue of Iron Man, so he figured "What the hell, I'll never get work from thee guys again anyway" and introduced Thanos, Drax, Mentor, eros (Starfox) and Moondragon. That's a lot for one filler issue! The rest is comic's history! I just picked up Captain Marvel 28 and I have 31 in the box. I am thinking of getting all of the 'Thanos War' books. Neetogeeko just helped me get my Thanos last week. Have you heard Thanos may be in Avengers? |

I kinda doubt it- they just did a big thing with him- usually they let him cool off for a while before bringing him back-
****SPOILERS FOR THANOS IMPERATIVE**** Nova and Starlord both "died" sealing Thanos away in the Cancerverse dimension. It was kind of a big thing. Besides, that kind of thing would get the annihilators together to fight him- and that's a pretty sick team to fuck around with! Even for Thanos! |

No I meant in the movie.I was at Superherohype.com the other day and they linked to an article saying Thanos was going to be in it. It would be interesting if it was true.

Oh!
I sorta doubt that too...unless he's at the very end. But, OTOH, they did make a prop of the Infinity Gauntlet that was shown st SDCC 2010 with the Thor movie props! |

Got a package in the mail and it had my Avengers 69 and Avengers 72. Both good books. I know that Avengers 72 is the first issue of the bronze age but they are both good things and worth having.
I went to my LCS and each week Mike puts brand new stuff in the display counter and out went my Journey into Mystery I have been buying. I walk in and this guy had the NERVE TO BUY TWO OF MY BOOKS!!!! So after he left I had the owner throw the 7 books into my box, no one else gets my books. |

Get a copy of Avengers Annual 10- it's an amazing read with incredible Mike Golden artwork and introduces a few minor characters to the MU.
Mistique, Pyro, Avalanche...and Rogue! Rogue kicks everyone's ass! Even Thor! (Thor's a sap and lets Rogue kiss him- thinking with his other hammer, I guess) |

Most notably Tales of Suspense 93 with a great Sub Mariner and a very excellent Hulk story where he fights Silver Surfer. The cover is most excellent. ![]() |

No- they were always intended to be Avengers baddies- none of them besides Blob had even met the X-Men (as this was their first appearance).
It gets weirder- Rogue decies to leave the Brotherhood and strike out on her own after the Brotherhood teams up with Rom to defeat Hybrid (who just appeared in Avengers Academy). Hybrid wanted Rogue and Mystique to start p a breeding harem...which is exactly what any 13 year old that turns into a hideous monster should try for. Hell, I'd have done it! X-Men history hinges on an Avengers annual and an obscure Rom issue. Writer Bill Mantlo planted the seed for Rougue's turn to heroism...that guy could write some damn good comics, boys! This week's Wonerella is freakin brilliant and hysterical- a great knock on 90's superhero comics.
The Non-Adventures of Wonderella If you're unfamilliar with Wonderella, I highly reccomend you read from the start- all the series to date is in the Archive for free- really really great stuff! |

I am looking at getting a couple old Spider-Man issues that came into my LCS. First appearance of Kingpin and the follow up issue. Amazing 50 and 51. They look good too. But first I am giving another guy a crack at them because he is a Spidey person.

Rom Vol 1 32 - Marvel Comics Database ![]() As far as Bill Mantlo he was hit or miss. He had some good Hulk stuff like issue 300 but his Alpha Flight was just strange like instead of making Northstar 'come out' he made him a fairy, which in hindsight may have been as close as he could come to outing him. |

Regarding your highlighted text, I referring to the Brotherhood's first appearance as Avengers baddies (Avengers Annual 10), not the Rom appearance, which was after their X-Men fight....but then maybe not, since Claremont wrote Avengers Annual 10...he might have had some big plan for her.
That fairy crap was allll Marvel editorial (Jim Shooter had a strict ban on any gay characters in Marvel). Comic Book Resources had an article explaining Shooter in particular had fought against Northstar being revealed as gay forever, then Marvel finally, years later (and after Mantlo left), relented they did not use the original Mantlo story - which was supposedly more mature in tone- and instead went with some crap Scott Lobdell wrote involving (I shit you not) a Canadian stereotype version of Captain America called Major Maple Leaf...and they certainly did not give him HIV/AIDS. ...and though a lot of fans undrstood exactly what Northstar's illness was foreshadowing, Marvel editorial would have none of it and came up with that fairy idiocy. Really, did they not get that giving Marvel's first openly gay character a "fairy" disease would be offensive? Northstar was always intended to be gay- Byrne never gave him any romantic subplots and had him change the subject whenever his sister would talk about him "finding a wife" or whatever. After his "coming out" issue the topic was never brought up again in the first AF run and has only recently been explored with the most recent run. Amazing how stuff we think of minor was such a chore to write back then betwen the Comic Code and Editorial bigotry (or unfounded fear of the CCA). Hell for decades there was a complete ban on black people in DC's Legion of Superheroes- artists actually quit because that writer was such a tool. DC had a utopian future Earth with no crime or disease or war...or black people. A lot of (but not all) the facepalm decisions you see in comics come from the top- hell they tossed out two years of Doctor Strange character development and cool stories (and fired the creative team) because a new EIC wanted a reset to 60's classic for Marvel's core characters. Same with stuff like Spidey's marriage- a writer gets told the direction he has to take a character and ends up with his name on crap, or quitting and possibly hurting their career. Sadly Bill Mantlo was severely injured in the 90's and cant write any more. Quote:
On July 17, 1992,[citation needed] Mantlo was struck by a car while rollerblading. The driver of the car fled the scene and was never identified.[9] Mantlo suffered severe head trauma. According to his biographer, cartoonist David Yurkovich, in 2006, "For a while Bill was comatose. Although no longer in a coma, the brain damage he suffered in the accident is irreparable. His activities of daily living are severely curtailed and he resides in a healthcare facility where he receives full-time care."

Here's some of Mantlo's greatest Marvel hits- like creating Cloak & Dagger, Micronauts, Rocket Raccoon, and establishing that Magneto was the father of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver!! |
