Can't wait

Keep up the incredible work, your illustrations are always a complete visual joy...a feast for the eyes

EDIT: by the way, got both of the 4H trolls...very happy. now I need to grab that cyclops...and, based on the box art, looks like I'll need to grab what look to be *upcoming* (???) frost and swamp trolls...

Aside from the Cyclops, have you heard anything internally at 4H regarding more trolls?

That's hot. Always loved the look of Warduke and the assortment of AD&D figs I had as a child. Lord Soth and the Death Dealer are other Death Knights of which I'm a fan. Warduke's shield for the D&D toy was also a very cool accessory. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Your rendering of anatomy is superb! Study Kirby. The scenery & perspective your characters occupy, even incidental passersby can be just as interesting as the hero. I'm always astounded at how Jack, with just a PENCIL, could draw any texture imaginable, and make it instantly recognizable: water, wood, stone, ice, metal, cloth...
I hear Jack rarely used any reference photos. When I was starting out as an illustrator I recall trying to draw a cowboy from memory, and have him look significantly different from a musketeer, or pirate...much less drawing/rotating the same figure from panel to panel. Jack, Ditko, Wood...made it look so easy.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks! Yeah, IMO, its one of those cool but forgotten toy lines...

Thanks! Next year around this time, I will have been been doing art freelancing full-time for 10 years.

Thanks! Like many others I didn't appreciate Kirby when I was younger but now, I can see and understand what the big deal is with him.

@Dee

Yeah, it's a shame that even well-heeled toy enthusiasts are still fairly unaware of that AD&D line.

The first series was superior to the second series, IMO. The second series dropped a bit in quality of sculpt, which may, or may not have been the result of adding poorly thought-out/executed gimmicks (i.e. launching crests of shields and attack motions). Sometimes keeping up with the competition can detract from what you do well and they (LJN) seemed to miscalculate what made the figs appealing. Ejecting projectiles and arm-swinging levers were unnecessary.

My favorites were: Elkhorn, Melf, Warduke, Kelek, the Ogre King, and Mercion. I loved matching them with my Crystar figs. My attention was captivated for hours at a time...so much happiness.

I remember a couple of us neighborhood kids getting together at one kids house who had the fortress and each of us had 2 or 3 of the figures. There were multiples but that was pretty cool nonetheless.

Out of the wave 2 stuff, I only remember seeing the wave 1 guys with the added gimmicks in the stores. The newer wave 2 guys I've only seen pics of online but, like you mentioned, they're inferior in sculpt and the designs were lame.

That playset was pretty nutz. I also had some of the monsters: Dragonne, Hook Horror, and Tiamat...just great stuff.

Loving the Conan and Devil Man, Dee. Amazing pen and pencil work as well. I laughed when I saw the missile...as if the bullet evisceration wasn’t satisfying enough for that sadistic bastard. The Cthulhu feel of the last beast is awesome, with the anchor mace being the perfect nod to fans….well, I hope I'm reading that correctly. Wonderful work.
