I contacted my local Game Stop today because they were holding some Walking Dead figures for me which I unfortunately didn't get around to getting because of some personal matters. When I asked the store clerk if they still had them he told me, "No, we were given a destroy order the other day." I asked, "What is that?" So he explained - What it basically means is that the company sends a memo down the chain to all their stores that says, "If you have this item in stock, physically destroy it and send back some piece of it to confirm destruction." The company is then given a credit for said items by the manufacturer or distribution company.

So, if you're having trouble finding figures, know that it may not be the scalpers fault. Somewhere out there in the middle of nowhere, your long lost desired toy could have been sitting on a shelf far too long, and as a result was destroyed for a purchase credit.

What a shame.

Star Wars merchandise is notorious for that they want pictures of the destroyed items, its crazy there could be so many other causes they can go to instead of just trashing them.

I destroy the toys that are in my trade/sales thread if I can't get rid of them.

I wonder how it's decided what goes to the stores like TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Ross/etc.

I wonder how it's decided on which area of the floor to toss their toys on in those stores.

this seems to be their policy for home goods and clothes as well. however I went to ross yesterday morning a little after opening and they had it looking cleaned up in there, must have had some top brass rolling through or something

as far as the topic goes I've never heard of this in regards to toys. I used to work retail and if folks returned furniture, bikes or things of the like we would get a credit and then a permission to destroy order and we pulled an 'office space' on that stuff.

I picked up a Megabloks Spiderman set off of a Marshall's shelf a while back and sunflower seeds started to pour out of a hole in the box. Whaaaa? Anyway, Blockbuster used to destroy alot of their rental DVDs too, when I heard that I was perplexed because they also sell used DVDs.

They do the same with cds & dvds that you get from columbia house or bmg. The ones you didnt want and send back. The post office holds them til they get a skid full. cursh them with a hi-lo and then off to the dump.

I used to work at Office Max many years ago. Once a month I was in charge of going through the list of items to be destroyed and had to take care of it. Always felt really bad doing it. I had to do it in the loading dock, in front of our security camera.

In our case, we would get reimbursed from the manufacturers of merchandise that went unsold after a certain amount of time. But the reimbursement was contingent on us destroying the merchandise we were getting refunds for. Basically companies would buy back old stock and don't want it so they had us destroy it. It would be everything from PC's to printers to furniture to software.

Just goes to show how disgustingly wasteful this country is. With all the food we waste and shit we destroy for no good reason. We could help millions of people in this country as well as others. Can't have that though! It's all about greed!

yeah my sister's BF got fired for 'stealing' candy that was outdated and he was asked to open and dump in the trash. he would just put it in a box by the dumpsters or what not and grab it after work

I do understand why companies can't give out close dated food instead of destroying it as a homeless person who get's sick would feel just as entitled as one who actually paid for the food that got them sick, and like good americans sue

I didn't think they did that with toys....but it doesn't surprise me. I worked retail and would have to destroy all the damaged clothing, purses, leather jackets, etc etc...such a shame and waste...some stuff could be salvaged and re-sold at a lower price but the rest I had to physically destroy. I always thought it would be good to donate it but its bad for brand names to have their product destroyed and worn in the slums I guess. It costs to much to have the product fixed or shipped back to a warehouse....what a waste. Toys that don't get sold should be donated to Toy's for Tots or some other organization...a toy is a toy...some child who has no toys would love it regardless.

Instead of giving the toys to needy children they destroy them? Makes sense. Sometimes when asked by a homeless crack head for a dollar i'll just burn it in front of him. I just didn't think anybody else was that cold.

Really though, there's so many kids who never have anything. I hate wasting anything. It burns my ass to here they destroy them. I mean it's not food, and hell you could donate the toys as a tax credit. It's good PR and everyones happy.

We used to have to do this at Spencer's when I worked there. That's also how I ended up with some free master replica lightsabers and a ridiculous amount of Neca and Mezco toys.

Yes. I'm saying I stole them. They were to be "zeroed out" which is a nice way of saying smashed to bits. I thought that was dumb. I even wrote corporate to talk them into donating their shirts and stuff.

Don't even get me started on the hookahs we used to sell. They literally flew the vice president of Spencer's to come smash these...

They could have just cut rick's hand off and sent that as proof. But it does make sense that McFarlane would do that, especially since the second series of walking dead figures is about to come out. They may think that the peg warming zombies would hurt the sales of the new ones but I think they would have a better chance at selling with the new ones since there will be interest. That means that the Daryl Dixon figure is going to go up in value a bit making it more impossible to get.
