Open star wars figures? I know a lot of SW collectors never open up there figures. Is it a bad idea for me to collect them since I WILL open them.

How difficult would it be to resell if they're opened but still with the box?

Me and my freind have arguments on this all the time.

SOMETIMES I like to keep my figures in package, that is, if it serves a purpose OR (in most cases) it does not.

EXAMPLE: I bought Nova Marvel Legends. He is my favorite character BUT I choose to keep him in pakage. REASON? I do not own any other ML figures. He would be a gaint among my 3 3/4

EXAMPLE: I bought SDCC Vader with holographic Palpatine. Awsome Set. It talks out some scenes. BUT I already have 4-5 versions of Darth Vader already. REASON? To open him up would be my 5-6 Vader! I do not have another use for him! BESIDES, The package has a "try me" feature so I can still enjoy it!

BUT

MY FREIND STILL COMPLAINS. "WHAT IS THE REASON OF BUYING IT IF YOU CANNOT OPEN IT.?" he goes on, "I would rather have children buy the figure and open it than to have a colelctor or scalper buy it and horde it."

I agree that children should have the most fun BUT I bought the figure as a testament to some of my favorite characters and moments! Can I not collect and play?

I own TONS of figures. Most of which are open! On occasion I "collect". M-I-P. But I think it is really the decision of the consumer. Collect if you would like but make sure to display them! and if you Open them? DO THE SAME.

Yeah I gotta say I do the same, I open all I buy.
But with the upcoming X-23 figure, I'll buy 2, one to keep MIP, and one to open.

I keep a second copy of all the figures I love so much that I'd want to replace if they were broken.

I have a second POC Beachhead on the way to accompany the one I got today, and I'm happy I made that decision.

But remember he is specifically talking about Star Wars, which in fairness carries it's own culture as far as the fans, mythos, products and what not. Star Wars is also one of the lines which has been revamped so many times that collectors usually do opt out to keep them in package so to attest that that figure came from that series.

But...it depends on what type of collector you are. Are you a completist? Do you collect everything past and present? Do you want your collection to retain some value?

I think it's ok to open them because it is your decision. I open all of mine. And the best way to keep them in the best possible condition is to use plastic cases or put on shelf. It won't mean much but at least they won't get marked up.

Truth is, it's your money which you work for, and it's your choice how you spend it, and treat your toy's accordingly. Enjoy them the best way you know how!

I always open everything, but I think the idea of saving Star Wars figures in the package to resell is ridiculous. The original Star Wars figures are worth a lot in the package because the primary market was children, no one thought to save them, or knew how to protect them if they did, and figures in the package were fairly rare because of that.

Thirty years from now, when George Lucas is dead (or, to be fair, 96 and retired) Star Wars has been replaced by a blockbuster trilogy about Ugandan Refugees or giant robots battling on the moon (or whatever the future holds) and today's collectors have begun to die off from cholesterol and plastic lightsaber injuries, there will be thousands of Star Wars figures from the 1990s and 2000s, preserved in airtight, nitrogen filled, UV protected cases, mint on card and unplayed with, unloved and probably rendered obsolete by the ability to print plastic action figures in your living room from semi-legal downloadable files.

So I'd open them, but that's just me.

I love to hear that most of us here like to open our figures.

I definately keep a few of my favorites Mint on Card.

Star Wars is definately one of the series that currently will not hold much value later on. It's really not about monetary value but sentimental value.

It really comes down to how you see your collection. Some collectors are completists. Some believe that removing a figure from package destroys their value. So each collector will have his/her style. Me personally, I collect based on characters{trying to get every character that is made to fill my universe} and I believe it what was said on here at some point that, "toys are meant to be opened and played with" so I will open mine and spend time posing them while watching TV knowing that if you watch Ebay, many times a loose figure can still be worth alot. I do have a few MOSC but usually those are extra, or like the soon to be released Cap movie fig don't really belong in my little universe set up or I've got to pick up another MU Thor as I've posed him so much he's beginning to loosen in the joints so I'll pick up another just to have in case.
