Technically, if you only want to follow movie continuity, you can watch the Cartoon Network Clone Wars animated shorts, then Episode III. The shorts acts as a bridge between the two movies, gives you a basic introduction to General Grievous and explains why he is the way he is at the start of Episode III.

I have not watched the second Clone Wars animated series, so I can't really comment on it.
"animated shorts"? are these part of the series? or something I also need to find? I have access to the 2 seasons of TCW, but know nothing of these shorts.

Just Google the Tartakovsky Clone Wars animated series. They were little 2-3 minute episodes that aired between shows on Cartoon network before Episode III hit theaters. They bridged the gap between Episode II & III before Lucas ever thought to make the Clone Wars CGI series. You can get the combined volumes and I think they are only like an hour and half total.

here is a pic of the General Grievous two pack loose with the packaged single figure of Obi-Wan
A little bit off topic, but I never noticed how this fig looks more like Chuck Norris than anything else. Could be a nice custom fodder!

And also, I never had the chance to watch Star Wars in a chronological order, so I'd love you to be a "lab rat" and tell us how you felt when you discovered Episode3 AFTER watching all the five seasons of Clone Wars CGI, and seeing all the horrors of the war.

Iceman did a pretty good job of answering your questions, but here's the link to the Wiki page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wa...2003_TV_series)

The second animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, fills in more of the actual war, while the first one, Star Wars: Clone Wars, really only shows the early stages of the war and near the end. Also note the presence or absence of the word "The" in the title for each one, as that's the easiest way to tell them apart.

You can find the collected volumes (I and II) on Amazon, although they are kind of expensive now (They were $10-15 when they were first released on DVD). The DVDs make it a little easier to watch, since the shorts were all edited together into one contiguous "movie" for each volume (episodes 1-20 on Volume I and 21-25 on Vol. II).

Thanks for pointing this out.
Here's my revision for watching:
I just watched the movie The Clone Wars (If I knew it came out AFTER III, I would have waited)
Now that I know there is a 2003 series not the same as the 2008 series, and that III came between them, I think it's best to watch them like that...right?
So today-? I'll watch, in this order:

2003 Clone Wars
Star Wars Episode III
2008 The Clone Wars seasons 1-6

since that's the order they were given for SW fans to see.

Yes, that would be correct if you want to go in order of release date.

Within the timeline of the saga, The Clone Wars would come before Ep. III as well (and technically fit somewhere in between Clone Wars Vol. I and Vol. II).

I'm almost certain the Tartakovsky Clone Wars were rendered non-canon by the CG cartoon.

which CW is non-cannon? "The Clone Wars (2008) or Clone Wars (2003)?
They should have given it a different name to make it less confusing to discuss.

Be nice. This is apparently the first he's ever heard of the 2003 series and I doubt he knows offhand that the shorts were all directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (of Samurai Jack and Powerpuff Girls fame), or that it wasn't CGI like the 2008 series.

It's hard to follow a conversation when you don't understand the references being used in it.

I certainly agree a different name for each would have been nice.

As it stands, some would say that the 2008 series replaces the 2003 series, thus rendering the old one non-canon. This is mostly because the 2008 series fleshes out a lot of the events between AOTC and ROTS. It also builds on and expands the relationships between various characters (especially Obi-Wan and Anakin). By comparison, the 2003 series took a more bullet-point approach to its storytelling.

On the other hand, the '08 show introduces characters that are only significant within that show and have little to no real impact on the larger story. Or at least that's my understanding of it.

Continuity is a funny thing when it comes to Star Wars.

That's not the point. By writing Tartakovsky, I'm pointing him in the direction of the answer, since Tartakovsky had absolutely no involvement in the CGI cartoon. I wasn't being mean. I was being informative. If he writes "tartakovsky clone wars" in a search engine, it will show him what it is, since there is only one Tartakovsky Clone Wars.

All I know is 2003 Clone Wars and 2008 THE Clone Wars.
Which of those is the Tartakovsky series of which you speak?
or just never mind.

Thank-you for understanding that I don't speak this language yet. It's annoying when people assume I would know words that are not in the Webster dictionary just because they came out of their mouth. Reminds me of when my son was into Bionicles, and all those names...I just called them "Blue Guy", "Green Guy", etc.
Now I know why nerds get beat-up for insulting bullies in Klingon.

Watched Star Wars III Revenge of the Sith last night. It wasn't as good as the II movie, imo. Grievous is a coward/wimp? That's sad. I always thought the action figure of him was very cool, but now I do not hold him in such regards. I haven't watched The Clone Wars yet (except the movie) but it makes me wonder what happened to Skywalker's sidekick in that movie. I believe she will be in the 2008TCW series, but I didn't see her in the SWIII Revenge of the Sith movie, so I have to wonder if she died in the 2008TCW. Don't tell me, I'll figure it out when I watch the series this month. I also suspect she is just the Wendy/Marvin of the Super Friends...the Jubilee of the X-Men cartoon.

Ahsoka wasn't invented when episode III was released. She was created for the CGI Clone Wars series and it sort of explains why she didn't show up in Episode III but she may or may not appear in Rebels.

Also, I've never heard anyone say Episode II was better than Episode III. Maybe some things don't translate. Are the terrible acting, directing, and dialogue not as noticeable in other language versions of Episode II?

Grevious was a bit of a disappointment in both Episode III and the CG Clone Wars. If you watch the animated Clone Wars shorts Grevious is downright unstoppable sometimes. Apparently that is how he was envisioned early on in Episode III pre-production but as time went on he became more of a joke.

Genndy Tartakovsky is a cartoon series creator noted for Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory, Star Wars: Clone Wars, etc. in short: he's good at making cartoons.
You can consider both CW shows canon if you insert the newer one into a part from early season 2 of the original (it was during a time lapsing montage). Overall I prefer the original, it's shorter and acts as a filler movie which ends literally where RotS begins, but also doesn't introduce a collection of characters that become loose ends. Durge was the most awesome bounty hunter ever (after Boba Fett), Asajj Ventress was introduced here first, and no new heroes were introduced to serve the kid friendly role. I suppose what's canon is what you make of it, according to Disney only the movies are canon now, but that doesn't have to affect your opinion.

Relevant to this forum: I picked up my first Star Wars toy in years. I dropped out very early in the Vintage collection and only recently picked up the saga legends Boba Fett, originally I didn't care for any of the new 5 POA legends, but it was Boba Fett, so I had to. Overall glad I did, and now I can slip away back into the shadows of not getting anything else for a long time.

so it's the 2003 series? when I saw TCW I thought he was saying THE CLONE WARS, since the 2003 is just CLONE WARS. Thanks for the info.

I did not enjoy the 2003 CW series, but I am LOVING the 2008 TCW series

Hey, you're in the same boat with me getting back into Star Wars. I was not into the 5POA either, but their SYMMETRY makes them more palitable. It's those 1995 figures that i hate (V-Crotches, hulk bodies, posed arms and legs that really don't look right posed other ways)
