If you got it for less than $40 I would lean towards knock-off but maybe you just got very lucky and someone had the real deal and just wanted to pass it on. It's sometimes very difficult to figure a knock-off from the genuine but I guess if you could compare the different serial numbers and overall package layout to images of the original in box you could give it some more credibility. This is a case though of the figure being old enough for some high-quality knock-offs to be produced, were it a new figure then I'd say the chances of someone making a high-quality knock-off would be very slim but since this is older it's hard to pin down. Honestly even if it is a knock-off as long as it's fair quality and doesn't have distinct odors or a generally weird in-hand feel to its plastic then it might not really matter if you're gonna open it whether it's knock-off or genuine.

I gotta agree here with En Sabah, er... Mr. Nerd. For openers (like myself), whether for display purposes or actual play, so long as the figure looks and works decently, knock-offs should work just fine.

If a figure's authenticity is that important, then I likely wouldn't purchase Loose figures from EBAY or anywhere else. Spend the extra $ for piece of mind. Being the cheapo/poor boy that I am, such piece of mind for me comes at too high of a premium.

This figure was not loose, I mean I don't care about autheicity that much if it is a good quality KO, if it was one that looks and works fine I'm 100% good with it

What I'm worried about is one that will fall over and crumble lol

I guess you are right there, I mean I hope that if it is a KO it is one the well made ones that you can't really tell unless you go deep into comparison

Though if if it's one of those half assed piece of crap KOs eBay better be giving me some money back lol

The easiest way to spot knock offs is to know what you're looking at. As many people have stated, people now a days are very clever when it comes to producing knock offs, and the quality of many of them are beginning to fall right in line with the legitimate stuff. Many times though, you can tell a bootleg from an original copy by:

1. examining joints or articulation points (such as the Groot BAFs that were flooding Ebay some time back, they had screws in the joints as opposed to the double jointed elbows they should have had...)

2. differences in paint apps and colors (Such as the Black Cat Marvel Legends floating around now, which have different shades of blue in the hair, or again, that Groot, which had a lighter green wash over the body...)

3. accessories or scale of the item (there are a glutton of loose, bootleg Halo weapon sets on Ebay, which while the sculpts and paints are very good, are way too big for the figures they are being advertised for.)

Then there's serial #s, figure packaging and what not...Knowing and studying product pictures are the only way you will know for sure, and even then...there's a good chance you might guess wrong.

Knowing where you are buying from is helpful as well. If it comes from China, is loose, and from Ebay, chances are, it's fraudulent. But on the other end of the spectrum...if it looks good, fills in the holes of your collection, and saves you a few dollars on the way, who cares if it's fake or not. There are a lot of people here who have bought the China-pools (the army of multi colored Deadpools on Ebay) many of which were as good or better than the original figure, and are nearly indistinguishable to the naked eye. Many times, it will be only you that knows. It's all about what you value. It's your collection...enjoy it.

I hate to say this, but in all honesty, the Phasma figure kind of sucks. Despite my foot issue, she can barely be posed into doing anything. She can't hold her gun with both hands properly. Her legs can't really move, and the lack of double joint elbows really hurt her character. Not to mention she doesn't look the least bit feminine like she does in the trailers.

i don't understand why they gave the troopers double jointed knees, but only single jointed elbows.

i would've preferred both.. but if not both, i think double jointed elbows are WAY more useful.

I think the usual Hastings price for a black series figure is $25 because mine still has Bespin Luke and an Obi-Wan for that much.

Diggin' that setup Dr. Kain!

Am beyond pissed though right now. I ordered & paid for a BS 6" Phasma off the HTS.com website nearly 2 weeks ago. Just received an email from them earlier today that my order is now cancelled.

I sent their customer service an email letting them know that I found that to be unacceptable. I'll give them a call tomorrow during office hours to follow up as well.

Anyone else have to deal with such things from Hasbro or HTS specifically? Any advice on how to proceed? (especially if something already worked for someone in the past).

As if hunting down BS 6" stuff is difficult enough already...

Well I found about half of wave 3 of the black series ships at target today, anyone know the best way to get these legs right? Like typical hasbro they are warped inward right out of the box

Drop it in a bowl of boiling hot water (be careful not to burn yourself) for a few seconds, until the plastic go back to its original shape, then immediately take it out and put it into a bowl of cold water, which will help it set back into its original shape. It works on all my Marvel figures that's got warped parts from being in the package.

Actually BS 6 inch stuff is easy to find here. Not Phasma though.

These are supposed to be metal, that might not work.

I saw this guy yesterday, but I stopped myself short of getting him for this same exact reason. It's apparently the armor of the enforcers or some kind of gang. If he was a singular bounty hunter type like Fett or Bossk, I might have jumped, but at this point, he's sounds like he's street level fodder that you'll have to army build and will get owned by Han in his one scene.

He looks cool as hell though...
