I can't help but open THAT can of worms. What do you guys think of the prequels?

How do you rank all the movies?

Personally, I... strongly dislike, but not hate? the movies themselves (I rank from best to worst RotS, TPM, AotC), but love the stuff that came out of it. Like, I love the setting, and the characters, and the concepts, and the technology and stuff, and I love how they're used in stuff like The Clone Wars, and comics, and video games, and such; I just do not like the movies that spawned them.

Revenge of the sith ain't bad I actually like it. I'd say:
1. Revenge of the sith
2. Attack of the clones
3. Phantom menace (which I hate) but I like Darth Maul that's all from that movie

I agree with that I actually love the cartoons and Some of the Characters to come out of the movies like some of the clones are awesome

Love them. I still watch them along with the OT pretty frequently. There's rough spots that make you say "Wha?" But it's Star Wars- more than that it's George's StarWars vision. And while not everything is Super-Awesome-Amazing- it's truer StarWars than the Corporate stuff Disney is doing....Which doesn't mean I didn't love R1 (I have a lot of hate for TFA but that's more about killing Han Solo than anything else) The NSWU (New Star Wars Universe)has the benefit of being built by fans that grew up loving StarWars just as much as about anyone else- so there's this excitement about revisiting the things that made us love StarWars to begin with- something George wasn't really concerned about.
Ranking them all?
ESB
ANH
R1
RotS
RotJ
AotC
TPM
TFA
But that is all subject to change

I think they killed off Han Solo because Harrison Ford wanted them to so he didn't have to do Star Wars anymore and it opened him up to doing Indiana Jones again

It's more that Harrison had been wanting to have Han Solo killed off since RotJ, and he finally got to make it happen.

That is cool

I didn't liked TFA on my first viewing, but I like it more now. But there a lot of problems with it, killing Han Solo being just one of them for me. Killing him meant that we will never see the whole gang back together again which is a no-no. I do think the Last Jedi will be much better though.

I'm not sure how I rank the movies as whole.

For prequels, I would say:
1. The Phantom Menace
2. Revenge of the Sith
3. Attack of the Clones

For OT:
1. Return of the Jedi
(it's hard to decide which to rank higher, ANH, or ESB, have gripes with both)
2. Empire
3. A New Hope

And as for Disney's movies:

1. The Force Awakens
2. Rogue One (aside from a few scenes I did not like this movie, I was really bored by it and didn't care about any of the characters)

O in that case.
1. Empire strikes back (Perfection)
2. Force Awakens ( loved it way more then I thought liked the characters too)
3. New Hope
4. Rotj ( didn't care for the Childish Ewoks it was a Prelude to Jar Jar I guess)
5. Rogue One
6. Revenge of the sith
7. Attack of the clones
8. Phantom menace

Yeah,Ford and Lawrence Kasden had been famously trying to get Han killed off since Jedi. I'm cool with him getting killed in ep.7 because his performance was so strong this time around....kind of redemption for phoning it in for Jedi.

Prequels...not a fan but not a hater....rots,pm......aotc....probably the only sw film I truly dislike though because it's so dull and dreary.

Mr.Ford is on my shitlist too. I figure signing on for TFA probably had "Han dies" clause somewhere in the contract. Jerk. I would have much rather seen TFA start about 100yrs after RotJ. Luke (still alive thanks to the Force) and Chewie (and c3po and R2d2) should have been the only Legacy characters)... I like to think Han and Leia successfully brought about 100yrs of peace and lived happily ever after rather than have a dick kid that makes them divorce and then go all patricide on Han.... lol- yeah, still holding a TFA grudge I guess

I disagree about the 100 years thing, but yeah I agree that it was a jerk move of Harrison to sign on just to get killed off. He never has and never really will appreciate the fact that he is a big part of Star Wars, he's really ungrateful IMO.

I also am not a fan of their son being Kylo Ren. Before the movie came out, I was hoping he would be an outsider who was a kid during the Empire and was trying to be the next Darth Vader.

my main reason for the 100yrs bit...or 500... or.... Is because StarWars ended with the Empire defeated and the heroes victorious. True Fairy Tale stuff that we don't see too much anymore- TFA took away the Happily Ever After and threw everybody into turmoil and loss. As a kid that grew up with StarWars being a huge part of my life (yeah- I'm that big a nerd- and not in the modern cool nerd way)that was TFAs largest crushing blow to me. So having it kick off with a new Empire long after all the OT Heroes (unless you really want Luke in there which could be pulled off) have passed on, would have kept that Happily Ever After intact. Just my own opinion on the matter- StarWars, is like that- everyone knows what's best for it in their own mind

The First Order isn't a new Empire. They are basically a Galactic Empire paramilitary fanclub-militia, just on a galactic scale rather than planetary one. The Rebellion won, various Imperial warlords fled into the unknown regions rather than adhere to the treaty signed between the New Republic and other Imperial leaders. They do not control anything like the territory that the Empire did, or the New Republic does.

As for Rey, like it or not she was the runaway success of TFA and retailers were complaining for months they couldn't keep her merch stocked fast enough.

I wish they had given us more explanation of what happened in between ROTJ and TFA. I feel like TFA created more questions than answers.

The Force Awakens visual guide gives a "brief" but pretty cool breakdown of how the FO and the Republic came about

Certainly no more than what ANH had fans asking back in 77.

I kind of actually dislike how much they have tried to explain. I've seen articles on Gizmodo or other sites with titles like "We finally know how C-3PO got that red arm."

I'm like already? They feel the need to pump out tons of novels right before this era, include tid bits in the movie novelization that fleshed stuff out more, and then some comics on top. I wouldn't have cared to know immediately what happened to his arm, it makes the joke in the movie when he asks Han about it funnier.

I would almost rather them not touch any of that until the trilogy is done to let it stand on its own.

Toy R Us Australia have the SDCC Boba Fett and Han Solo in carbonite set, only $200AUD/150USD. It's not the first time its been at Australian retail, but it's gone up about $60 since then.

Gonna comment on the prequel thing and TFA thing at the same time.

Prequels get by on childhood, though the fighting is kinda fake in hindsight. It's like Batman 89 and the Killing Joke, in that I much prefer what came out of it over the material in question.

Personally, TFA is my favorite of the Star Wars movies. Maybe it's because I grew up with nothing but Special edition versions of the originals, and thus I haven't seen true brilliance, but for some reason, I connected with TFA way more than ANH. Now, don't get me wrong, ANH is classic, and truely must have some respect thrown its way, but I feel that it falls flat in a few areas for me, even though I have a hard time figuring out what those areas are. Just something is too off for me to properly appreciate it(I didn't even properly appreciate Tarkin until Rogue One). I also didn't care about Rey and Finn before I saw it in the theaters. I was coming back to see Han Solo, Leia Organa, and all of the other old faces face off against an Empire-fanclub that has a a possibly cool Sith dude on their side. Seemed cool, kinda exciting. I'll watch it but not get overly into it again. However, the movie got me hooked on those characters in a more natural way. TFA made me WANT to collect Star Wars action figures for the first time since 2005, and really rekindled my love for the franchise.

Man, that's long and possibly doesn't make sense due to it being 12 in the morning. Expect some edits.

Usually people say the fights are the best things about the prequels. I certainly think so, they don't seem fake to me.

I caved and got the 40th legacy set, it's such a good Darth Vader. The sculpt is stronger, the cape material is heftier, and the joints are easier to work with.

Regarding the prequels, there are actually a few things I like from them. The BEST thing is easily John Williams' score for all three, he ventured into operatic territory and it payed off. Even the super crappy AotC romance had this beautiful music which is the only thing that can keep me going through those scenes. I liked Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan as especially by RotS he felt like the young version of this character we knew from the originals. Liam Neeson, Samuel L Jackson, and Christopher Lee were all cool even if they didn't get enough screentime. The casting had some great bright spots surrounded by mediocrity and poor writing. Finally, of course, the prequels did deliver some solid action. The pod race as a spectacle, the duel of fates, and the battle of the heroes all stand out to me.

As someone who grew up watching the classic unedited trilogy (thanks VHS) I would rank all current SW movies from best to worst as:
ESB (need I say more?)
ANH (when you can't be first place you're second)
TFA (for its many flaws I feel it was the most Star Wars movie since the OT)
ROTJ (Ewoks almost ruin the back half of this one for me, also special edition...)
R1 (I liked the gritty approach even if the whole thing was a plothole plug)
ROTS (the first half meanders and Hayden Christensen is dull but the back half was pretty cool)
AOTC (less Jar Jar than TPM)
TPM (Jar Jar and kid Ani, nuff said)
TCW (2008 movie, don't think I've forgotten this monstrosity)
Holiday Special (why not chuck this in too?)

He seems appreciative that SW was his big break but, at the same time always anxious to do other things and move on from SW. Nothing wrong with that. He still shows up at SW-related things so its not as if he doesn't acknowledge that he was a part of it.
I know we all love SW but, sometimes we have to keep in mind that to some of these people that were involved, it is just a job to them...a means to an end. And thats kind of the impression I get from Ford.

Physically, the guy is in his 70s so probably doesn't want to endure the strenuous day to day grind of a big budget production any longer than he has to. He broke his leg on set during filming of TFA and from the story surrounding that, it sounded as if it could've been a lot worse than it ended up being.

I thought TFA was a good send off for the character. Glad he put some effort into it this time around instead of just going through the motions and mumbling, shivering and pointing his way through a performance like he had been doing for years and years.
