I think it's a matter of pride. The last time someone just gave it to Bo she ultimately lost it to Gideon so she feels she has to earn it back this time or not have it at all.

Yeah I dunno what they're doing with the accessory plastic now. Fett's viewfinder is made out of the same plastic and when light hits it, it shines through. You can see that a few posts up on my fett pic. It's just raw, grey plastic with no paint on it.
