I've been sensing this disturbance a lot lately. Do they have research that says toy collectors prefer 6"? I know I don't because I like to have a lot of characters and not spend crazy money. if 6 inch figures were cheaper would you guys buy them?

i didnt start collecting action figures until last year when i started making money. during this first year i noticed people liking 3 3/4. for me i want something i can hold/play with and put on display and 3 3/4 doesnt do that for me. its just to small. smaller size, less detail, less articulalion. I would think atleast from my standpoint that bigger is better, if i could i would buy 1/1 scale figures.

after all the human race is 6 feet tall, not 3 3/4 feet, we must like being this size.

I find that the size of the figure plays virtually no role in how well it looks displayed on my shelves. I have figures ranging from 1 centimeter, to 12 inches on my shelves, and the variety makes them all look amazing to me.

Also, just because a figure is smaller, doesn't necessarily mean it has less articulation. Hasbro's 3.75" GI Joes have more articulation than most larger figures from other brands.

The thing is... a lot of Collectors are collectors.
Meaning, they collect. A lot. And collections take up a lot of room. Smaller figures take up less room. You can display almost three times as many 3.3/4" figures in the same area as you can 6" figures. And for MiB collectors, likewise the packages take up considerably less room.

So for many collectors, their preference towards smaller figures comes due to space. I don't collect MU, but I'd jump all over a DC toyline if Mattel scaled DCUC down to the 3.3/4" scale. For that exact reason.

Also, feet to inches really isn't a terribly good concept. If the toy companies that produced that scale were concerned about making the tigures exactly to scale with what they should be (Wolverine being 5", Jean Grey 5.6", Gambit being 6", and Colossus 7"), then your statement would make more sense. But as of now, Wolverine, Gambit, and Jean are almost always the exact same size, and we're lucky if Colossus is larger.
For them, at the 6" range, its not about converting human footage to inches. It's about a pricepoint, and the amount of plastic used.


That said, I'd kill to have a dinosaur toyline that converts feet to inches, as impractical as that'd be. A five foot long sauropod toy would be flippin' EPIC!

Personally I am a 6" figure fan exclusively. DC Movie Masters, Batman Arkham video game figures, Wal-Mart Movie Lines The Avengers, Spider-Man, Iron Man. The small figures just don't cut it for me anymore. But that's my preference.

The only SW figures I still own beside two original 3 3/4" from my childhood in the 70s are Unleashed. These would actually make me consider collecting Star Wars figures again.

My top choices would be:

Darth Vader
Boba/Jango Fett
Clone trooper Commanders
Mace Windu
C-3P0/R2-D2

I too would kill for that. So far, Papo has produced a raptor that is pretty close to the 3.75" scale, and Kenner produced a t-rex back in the 90s that was scaled perfectly for 3.75"
However, none of them are really articulated, except for some wiggly arms, and a moving jaw.
Papo is also producing a pretty big brachiosaurus, but I don't know exactly how big, nor when it will be released.



EDIT: I guess it's not so big, but still a high quality figure.

Never been much of a Star Wars collector or 6" collector because I've been a GI Joe person since back in the 80's. Being so used to GI Joe articulation the lack of articulation in some Star Wars toys just sort of killed it for me.

But something about this Star Wars 6" line that has me interested.

Good, this is something I can easily say no to. I was just reading some of the posts about 3 3/4-inch versus 6-inch/kids versus adult collectors, etc. I'm an adult collector but I choose 3 3/4-inch pretty much exclusively for my collection because that's what I grew up with (in the late 70s and 80s)...Star Wars, GI Joe, Mego and Galoob Star Trek, all those other random 3 3/4-inch toy lines, etc. For me that scale is where the magic is. Ironically, my 8-year old son prefers the larger scale figures most of the time.

to find out how large it would be, all you would have to do is scale it up 100%. cause your going from 3" to 6". Im bored, so im gonna try to work this out.

edit: the legacy collection version is approximate LWH is 32"x28"x8".

so....scaling it up to 6" inch figs, it would mean that this beast of a toy would be 64"x56"x16".

I have said for a long time that with a few exceptions i was not collecting SW 3 3/4 until they go to full MU/Joe articulation cause they will eventually and im not buying everything a 3rd time ... but these 6" might rope me in.

Count me all in! Right now I mainly collect MOTUC with some Marvel Legends sprinkled in from time to time. That being said my main passion is and always will be Star Wars but due to poor quality I stopped collecting the 3.75" figures several years ago. I still pick up the occasional favorite but I will be all over these come August. I really hope these perform well enough to delve into the Expanded Universe characters.

In a way this is cool because since the roster will be small per wave, it ideally will be easier for us older collectors to collect.
