If you like the entire Star Wars Universe and want more figs to collect definitely Black Series, though S H figures are wayyyy better detailed and well done. Both will set your wallet back its just a toss up of whether you want more figs to collect or fewer with way better paint apps.

It depends. For me, I only really care about the main cast, and even then, I'm not sure if I want anyone beyond Vader and Luke (well, I'm getting 2 STs). As such, the Figuarts are perfect.

Budget is an up-front consideration. Black Series is cheaper than Figuarts. Figuarts will probably release fewer figures, and there may be more time between releases. Do you want quantity or quality? Do you need everything to be precisely the same scale, or can you pick and choose your favorites from different lines?

Take a look at the Figuarts rendition of Luke Skywalker. Clearly, Figuarts intends to distinguish their product by focusing on accurate, detailed head sculpts. Fine. But now take a look at Luke's body. Note the ab crunch. It'll enable some collectors to strike dynamic poses, but I don't do dynamic poses, and to me it just looks ugly.

I believe Figuarts displayed prototypes of Han and Chewbacca a few months ago, and the photos that I saw looked outstanding. If the head sculpts are recognizable and the articulation doesn't get in the way of appearance, I mean to cherry-pick those rather than the lower-budget versions by Hasbro.

Figuarts lacks the experience of Hasbro. Expect future releases to incorporate lessons learned. In that spirit, I intend to pick and choose my favorites from each line. Rgds

I disagree. The Ab crunch is something every toy should have in this day and age.

Figuarts to me, definitely wins with regards to sculpt and paint. However for the price they are, they definitely ought to be better. Just look at Figuarts Jedi Luke's head sculpt compared to BS 6" Luke. The former looks like it stepped off the screen from the Jabba barge scene whereas the latter looks depressed as hell and is even less accurate than the 10" Titan 5 point articulation Luke Skywalker. How the hell?!....

I think SWBS 6" will only surpass Figuarts Star Wars with durability. Figuarts are more intricate and you have to be a bit more careful than you would with a BS 6" figure. I could give a 6" BS figure to a kid and not worry but a Figuarts figure? At the youngest I would only let a teen handle it.

SWBS6" are mainline figures whereas Figuarts are specifically targeting collectors. Sure some may say SWBS6" does the same, but Hasbro also has kids in mind and that's reflected in the sturdiness. This isn't to say Figuarts aren't sturdy but they won't stand up to the abuse a SWBS6" figure can take. At the same time, they aren't model kit fragile.

There are some things I don't think it works with. I'm mainly thinking about the Predator right now but I honestly think if NECA (they're the only company consistently making predator toys) put any torso articulation in it would hurt the figures' look drastically. Having said that, it will aesthetically work with the upcoming AVP preds since they have the extra armor to hide the pose so those should be fun to mess with.

On topic: Figuarts will be much better individual figures than Hasbro could offer, alternatively Hasbro is cheaper and has more selection. Hasbro is definitely the better choice for army building and I don't think Figuarts will be doing characters like Bossk anytime soon, but the high price point alone points to their higher quality per figure.

i really couldn't care less about an ab crunch. that joint doesn't get too much use whenever i'm posing figures.

the points of articulation that i enjoy most are ankle joints, wrist joints, and head articulation. i think all figures made these days need ankle articulation, it's a shame that that's not the case.

anyways, on topic, i think overall the figuarts versions are much better, but the black series has a bigger variety of characters. so, for me, that would be the two factors i'd take into consideration when choosing a line to collect.

i would really love a figuarts version of grievous.. and i think some figuarts versions of captain rex, cody, gree, bly, etc, plus their troops would be awesome. the MMPR figures are awesome, i think the clone trooper armor is something figuarts could pull off perfectly.

Another thing that is better with the Figuarts are capes. Figuarts gives the figures a nice molded plastic cape that looks like it came out of the movies. The Hasbro one is a cheap cloth cape that shreds over time and doesn't flow like it did in the movies.

Well it doesn't look like it did in the movie exactly, it looks like a toy version made of plastic. But the plastic capes tend to be better for certain types of display and are definitely longer lasting. Of course plastic capes can go bad as seen on the Revoltech Darth Vader.

Depending who and what the character is. I feel that mixing them is a good idea IF scale is right.

A bit of both... I have a FiguArts Vader on the way, but I already have the Black Series version. I will mostly collect Black Series figures, I have almost all of the releases so far, but for a few of my absolute favorite characters, or just FiguArts that come out looking incredible, I will upgrade. I wanted three or four Stormtroopers to display, and that would be a bit more than I am willing to spend with the FiguArts versions. Anyway, I think the Black Series Stormtroopers actually look better.
