Hello everyone
I just recently started collecting action figures and wanted to know if anyone got some good advice on how to best start my collection. I mainly try to get my hands on figures from comics, cartoons or videogames that I know from my childhood. I love the nostalgia of the good old 70's and 80's and want to go into that direction. If anyone has any good advice on how to proceed best, I'd be glad to hear it^^ |

I would say stick to what you like. don't venture to far out because once you start collecting a line/series it becomes a habit. only buy the things you really want instead of everything you really think is cool. also, display space or storage space (depending on if you are a moc collector or an opener) will become a factor so take that into account. I sometimes look at my collection and wonder when is a good time to stop. still haven't found a good reason yet...

For anything older than retail shelves current offerings I would look to forums first, buy from trusted members, but I would start small

Welcome to the Toyark ToyShogun! A good place to find vintage toys will always be Flea Markets and Yardsales as well. I'm not sure of what kind of stores you have in Luxembourg, but these kinds of places have always faired well for me when it comes to vintage stuff...Good luck and happy hunting!!!

Thx for the advices^^ Already looked up when there are some Flea Markets nearby, I will probably visit them. I'll mostly look for moc/mib but I'll surely buy something opened too if it's a figure I really want.^^

Depends on whether you want to collect vintage or whether you want new versions of classic characters. Most characters from the early days are still produced in new form at various price points.
Vintage has the benefit of being rarer but can be very expensive if you want boxed unopened versions. New has the benefit that production quality and closeness to originals has really gone up. For example, NECA do some awesome movie figures based on older titles. Such as the very popular Aliens Series 1 figures. ![]() Myself I like the newer models because they look closer to their original characters thanks to modern manufacturing techniques. Take a look around and see what you like. Companies to check out include: NECA - For all sorts of more specialist movie figures DC Collectibles - For all things DC Diamond Select Toys - For loads of range, including the very popular Marvel Select Kotobukiya - For vinyl statues of many movie characters. Hope that helps!

my biggest recommendation is collect what you like, stay within your budget. Don't become a ocd completist and fall in the plastic black hole that is our hobby

what everyone else has said. Get something because you like it, going the route of thinking something will be worth a fortune one day will only lead to a big let down and don't let it become a rod to beat yourself with. When it comes to retro toys, keep a look out for conventions near you. There are always sellers with rare and loose, very affordable stuff on offer

I'm going to echo everyone else and from personal experience, don't 'collect' something for the sake of collecting. Buy what you REALLY like and know you will enjoy a few years down the road.

I agree, collect what you know and love. If you plan on buying and selling, thats a different story. But collecting to collect will empty your pockets quick. Collect the toys you love and love the toys you collect.
