I saw those as well...looks kinda like a firing effect coming out the end of the gun. Not necessary to have those pieces to complete the gun.

Man, new sculpts and the articulation is completely outdated. Come on Mattel, Killer Croc is made of entirely new parts. Why doesn't he have double joined knees and elbows? NOr ankle rockers? Same goes for Supergirl. Oh, and that Joker looks even worse in toy form than he does in the trailers.

Exactly! My toybiz classic spiderman from 2001, even as a loose* action figure is way better then these. It's really annoying that we can't have sort of DC version to Marvel legends; DC Collectibles only let you choose thigh swivel or double joints, not to mention they're often more pricey then Marvel legends. So you are only left with paying 40+$ for japanese import fragile action figure. I still can't believe Mattel made those Halo action figures, as if they found a special way to give DC fans the middle finger.

* I got it when I was 7-8 years old, I played roughly with it.

I may be getting rid of the line thanks to the Icons, but Mattel did give us an incredible line. It's just that they kind of ruined the fun when they went to the Matty stuff and their quality control is outrageous. I forgot how bad a lot of my figures actually are from a quality stand point. Wally's legs are super loose. I have several figures with loose ankles so it is hard for them to stand up. Giant characters being too small and regular sized characters are too big. Then they started to give only a selected few figures double jointed knees and elbows. Other figures, like Robin and Mercury, are fragile. Then we have weird hands on certain figures (like huge fists for Constantine and Uncle Sam, fists on Flash instead of running hands, etc). Frozen joints. Finally, I never realized how bad their T crotch was until I started collecting the Legends and Icons.

On the other hand, Marvel legends is still running. Having a cancelled toy line based on strong brand, it's quite a failure.

And so is DCUC, under the name Multiverse. Marvel Legends also had a 3 year hiatus where it produced no product.

There is a big difference between hiatus to cancellation. Hasbro improved Marvel legends aesthetics and joints, while Mattel stay put.

There's also a big difference between a perceived stagnation in quality and a complete failure as you put it. The line's been going in some form or another for over 10 years. It's produced hundreds of figures. It's still got a retail presence. That's a lot more than most lines can say. Marvel Legends being successful and of better quality doesn't make DCUC a failure when it's still producing product and still has a presence. A complete failure would be GI Joe, a strong brand with pervasive recognition that has, in fact, failed to establish a foothold at retail despite the efforts of two motion pictures and a season of cartoon, and that no retailers outside of Toys R Us are willing to carry.

It doesn't have anything in common with Gi Joe; DC comics aren't owned by mattel. They didn't made their movies/cartoons like hasbro, it was beyond them.

I don't get it either, but then, Matty Collector's forums thrive on it. You pretty much get banned if you say anything negative about their products or Mattel. He-man.org is the same way, which is why I left both sites.

Because those things add more parts to the figure, which in turn increases the cost to produce.
Even STar Wars Black and Marvel Legends have seen their articulation modified/reduced due to cost concerns.

I'm one to defend a company when they make logical decisions or show signs of improvement.

To me, the BvS core movie line is ASTONISHING in regards to how Mattel has traditionally handled a Batman line (and Unlimited has shown significant strides as well). I mean, the first wave had FOUR distinct characters, not to mention a LexBot and probably a Doomsday as well.
That's a FAR cry from how TDKR was handled, where Catwoman didn't even get a 4" figure, or TDK where characters not Batman or Joker were limited to the poorly distributed tail end of line.

And that's not even addressing the articulation, which will still not super articulated (and you're not apt to get that for $10), it's still a solid range of joints for a 6" $10 action figure.

Of course, we'll see these steps forward this year and another year or two at best, then Mattel will go back to their same old shenanigans

Ummm... on Knightmare Batman? They're similar, I'll give you that, but definitely not the same sculpt. Batman's is much longer and their front/opening is very different.

The only Marvel figures that don't hvae double jointed elbows are the females. They still have the knees though. And the ankle rockers. Oh, and they have neck disks. Mattel has no excuse.

They're doing a good job with their movie line? They are shipping 5-6 Batmans in a case while the other TITLE character is 0-1 per case. For a Superman sequel, Mattel sure as hell ain't treating it like one.

Well, I have theory, but specifically to DC; I think people tend to mix their love between the characters and their plastic reparation. Therefore, when you criticize the toy, it's like criticizing the character they love, especially since mattel became the iconic company for DC toys, unfortunately. Another reason that I thought about, considering the endless amount and hunger for live action movies. Made me realize that pepole doesn't necessarily like the comics as format, but only the story and characters. You would expect from someone who like comics( drawn art) to want an animated movies/ tv shows. So I guess those people have less attention to details and proportions.

It isn't just that mattel don't give a damn about the collectors, they don't even care for the children! We all know that "curvy" barbie nonsense wasn't made for little girls in first mind, but to certain small group of people who have an impact on the media. Now in the toyfair, they announce about collaboration between monster high and feminist foundation established by celebrity. In other words, mattel pushed politics into children toys! I think it's very inappropriate. Even though, there is a few toys from mattel that I still like, I am actually considering to boycott them because of this and I hope parents would stop buy mattel toys for their children.
