Hey all. Bored on a Saturday and watching First Class. My general thoughts on the way Marvel casts its movies in an aesthetic sense. I'm only considering my favorite iteration of each character. UCSC-style grading and general commentary. I wanna hear your thoughts on this topic.

Let's start with the X-Men frachise:
Wolverine: Hugh Jackman: Pass; he's got the look but way too tall.
Cyclops: James Marsden: Pass; he's got the attitude but kinda short.
Storm: Halle Berry: Pass
Professor X: Patrick Stewart: FTW
Magneto: Michael Fassbener: Pass
Jean Grey: Famke Janssen: Pass
Rogue: Anna Paquin: Fail; I love Anna but it just doesn't work for me.
Emma Frost: January Jones: Pass; yowza!
Beast: Kelsey Grammer: Pass; with the make-up it works.
Mystique: Rebecca Romijn: Pass
Iceman: Shawn Ashmore: FTW
Juggernaut: Vinnie Jones: Fail
Shadowcat: Ellen Page: Pass
Angel: Ben Foster: Pass; maybe a bit young.
Colossus: Daniel Cudmore: FTW
Lady Deathstrike: Kelly Hu: FTW
Nightcrawler: Alan Cumming: Pass, maybe a bit old.
Sabretooth: Tyler Mane: FTW, upon further review his look was phenomenal and I am grading on aesthetics.
Sebastian Shaw: Kevin Bacon: Pass
Havoc: Lucas Till: Fail; he's got the angst but it's missing something.
Banshee (young): Caleb Jones: Pass
Gambit: Taylor Kitsch: Pass

Mr. Fantastic: Ioan Gruffund: Fail
Invisible Woman: Jessica Alba: Fail; I love Jessica, it's just odd to see her in blue contacts and bleached hair.
Human Torch: Chris Evans: FTW
Thing: Michael Chiklis: FTW
Dr. Doom: Julian McMahon: Fail
Punisher: Thomas Jane: FTW
The Russian: Kevin Nash: FTW
Jigsaw: Dominic West: Pass
Ghost Rider: Nicholas Cage: Fail
Blackheart: Wes Bentley: Expelled
Thor: Chris Hemsworth: Pass
Loki: Tom Hiddleston: Pass
Odin: Anthony Hopkins: Pass
Heimdall: Idris Elba: Pass
Warriors Three: Ray Stevenson, Tad Asano, Josh Dallas: Pass
Sif: Jaimie Alexander: Pass
Laufey: Colm Feore: Pass

Wade Wilson: Ryan Reynolds: Pass; personality-wise, he's a good fit.
Spider Man: Andrew Garfield: FTW; he looks like Pete!
Green Goblin: Willem Dafoe: Pass
Harry Osborn: James Franco: Fail
Mary Jane Watson: Kirsten Dunst: Fail
Venom: Topher Grace: Expelled
Aunt May: Rosemary Harris: FTW
J Jonah Jameson: JK Simmons: FTW
Doc Ock: Alfred Molina: Pass
Sandman: Tom Church: FTW
Gwen Stacy: Bryce Dallas Howard: FTW; spot-on, my all-time favorite casting move!
Curt Connors: Dylan Baker: Pass
Daredevil: Ben Affleck: Pass; his acting was meh, but he looks like Matt.
Elektra: Jennifer Garner: Pass; save for the black hair, Jen is a believable ass-kicker.
Bullseye: Colin Farrell: Fail; I may have passed him if they had him in the classic costume.
Typhoid: Natassia Malthe: Pass
Kingpin: Michael Clarke Duncan: Pass

And yes, FTW is part of the grading system in UCSC...if I were the Dean, that is.

I got to disagree with you on Tyler Mane, his look at Sabretooth is amazing. If he was used more and used properly with an epic Wolverine Vs Sabretooth fight, I think your opinion may of been different. Jeff Bridges as Monger should be FTW. Don Cheadle should be a pass, he was better than that other dude. Human Torch is a pass, if that, he made a better Cap. Loki carried the Thor movie, so he is a FTW. Everything else seems to be in order :P.

@Tiberius, so you'd give him a FTW? Well, you're a board member at this school so we'll take your opinion into consdieration.
Cheadle was better than the other guy but it just didn't work for me. I guess Downey was so perfect that it skewed my thoughts on Rhodey's character.

Tyler Mane? I'm not to much of a homer [same name and he's Canadian] but he was the right size, had the look, the build. Just under used. He makes a good Michael Mayers too :P. My grade is pass, not ftw. a Solid B.

@stjuggs - Agreed.
I doubt he could act but how about Eddie-Brock-Lesnar. I'm still scratching my head at Eric Foreman as Venom.
