Hi all,

Not exactly a video game, but I'm thinking of blowing the dust off this old Palladium RPG book and giving it a whirl online, so in a way, it's a video game. LOL. Looking for other pen and paper players or even noobs who may be interested in playing the classic pen and paper RPG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Other Strangeness online. No experience required, although it would definitely help. I'm thinking of using Maptools, but it seems to be a bit annoying to use. I'm working on a way to manage character sheets through the web browser. I'm thinking of using 8 bit/16 bit stylized sprites as avatars like the ones I made above: Bones McMutt (Doberman), Fourteen (Mouse), Munkee (Monkey) and Albert (Parrot) (Don't worry, you guys get to make your own characters). For anyone unfamiliar with this type of game:

You roll some dice (in this case, virtual dice) and generate a character (in this case, a mutant animal).

A game master (me) guides you through a story and a series of adventures where combat situations and most skill and chance scenarios are resolved through rolling dice.

I plan on doing this through the Maptools chat or some other chat program. Maptools would be neat because you can use virtual miniatures on a 2D battlefield grid but not entirely necessary.

I'll be running fun modules straight out of the supplements that came with this fun filled game! The game takes place in modern time but has plenty of sci-fi twists and time travel is always a possibility!

I'm looking for at least 4 players and a maximum of 8 players. There are a few restrictions, I'd prefer that you played your real gender LOL, you'll need to play good aligned characters only and your characters are partially randomly generated as per the rulebook. Leave a post/PM me for details or if you're interested in playing.

I always wanted that game when I was little. But my mom would never let me have it, telling me "It's dangerous. People kill each other playing games like that."

While I know I'd have not understood or appreciated it then, it's one of the biggest regrets now, not having it. Because I now know it's something I would have grown into and really embraced the older I got.

I would love to play, but unfortunately I have no working knowledge of the game, and my net connection prevents me from using any online tools that makes paper RPGs possible online.
I love doing freeform in IMs, though.

Haha, true that. There was such a stigma around RPG games and it wasn't that "it was for nerds", it was more like "it'll get you joining cults and doing black magic", haha. I have a lot of books but it's hard to find a dedicated group to play. Like NONE of my friends play at all, or even really collect toys, so it's not that easy to find fellow players!

What's wrong with your internet connection, Jetty? Is it just slow? Because Maptools isn't an intense program, you could literally run it over dial-up. So far I've got one other guy onboard to play online and possibly you which isn't bad for posting this this morning. Two more and we are good. LOL.

I live in a rural area, where no one except Hughesnet will offer anything more than dial-up.
And I can't afford the start-up costs for hughesnet.

On top of that, the land line in the area has a very bad background buzz that interfears with the connection.
So internet connection is basically worse than what we had in late ninties. Only now, the net is geared almost exclusively for those who have broadband or higher.
This is one of three websites I can access daily without any trouble. I can't handle my Deviant Art account, I can barily handle my Fur Affinity account (And that takes ages), and I've had to drop every single webcomic I ever used to read.
If it uses Flash, or Javascript, I'm boned. It's also really *really* hurt my ability to get a job since most places only take applications online now, and I can barily do some of them.
Anytime anyone gives me a link over an IM, I have to ask if it's flash, java, quicktime, or anything embedded (Like youtube). All those things kill my connection and end up crashing my computer.

Wow, that's some bad net. Maybe we can test the program out first and see if your web can handle it. Like I said, it's fairly bandwidth friendly and you can download a repository cache that makes you need to download practically nothing during the game except text messages. That should make it a lot easier for you to play. We got 3 others onboard so far, plus you makes four. Helped one make their character yesterday. He rolled a very cool character!!

Not yet. Did get the program downloaded, although it won't start for me.

Oh shoot, it's as I feared, you may need to download Java, get it off of Java's website. It's free and fairly small, I believe. Just think, you get it once and you'll never need to get it again! If you have problems getting Java, I can look at other options. Determined to get at least one Arker into this game. LOL.

2 more just joined. Unfortunately 1 dropped out, but thankfully I hadn't gone through the character creation process with him yet. You know how long that takes. LOL. Can you believe it, we have 6 players now. It's going to be a great time.

Hey Jetty, if you get a chance, can you log into Yahoo? I just finished the Lite version of the chat and I'd like for you to test it. It shouldn't kill your net like the other AJAX one did. LOL.
