Let's see if we can get some more non-Transformer lists going.

What your favorite movie adaptations of comic books? They don't have to be only Marvel/DC, nor do they have to be live-action only. But try to keep it to movies that had a theatrical release.

1. Transformers (2007) - Ok, I admit that one was fairly obvious.
2. The Dark Knight - My favorite interpretation of the Joker and his motives ever.
3. Spider-Man 2 - Brilliant execution of Doc Ock and the evolution of Peter Parker. Sadly, part 3 would not fare as well.
4. Hellboy - Ron Perlman was perfect casting.
5. Batman Begins - Excellent reboot of a franchise, showing what should have been done for Superman Returns (but wasn't).
6. Superman II - Kneel before Zod!!!
7. Spider-Man - Reignited the idea that comics are viable source material for movies after the Bat-franchise nearly destroyed it.
8. Superman - Christopher Reeve made me believe a man really could fly.
9. Punisher (2004) - Closer to the source and far less campy than the Dolph Lundren escapade.
10. Howard The Duck - It's a guilty pleasure. Sue me.

You're list is completely off base, here is the real Top Comic Book Movies of all time.. And This list Goes to 11

11) Daredevil - Ben Affleck's finest moment as an Actor and who knew Bullseye was Irish?

10) The Amazing Spider Man - starring Nicolas Hammond. Web shooter bracelets and a utility belt? Brilliant!!!

9) Barb Wire - A plot based loosely on Casablanca, so who else should star in it other then Pam Anderson?

8)Judge Dredd - A Sly Stallone/Rob Schnieder classic "I am da Law"

7)Batman Forever - I never knew that Two Face, The Riddler and The joker all had the same personality? And Poor Robin orphaned at 27.. Thanks for showing me the light Joel Schulmacher.

6)The Punisher - Dolph Lundren carried Lou Gosset Jr on his back

5)Howard The Duck - Pedophile Jeffrey Jones is the bad guy, nuff said

4)Captain America (91)- Fact The Red Skull is Italian!

3)Batman and Robin - Ice To meet you. There were many people worried that joel Schumacher couldn't top his last outing, well he took it to new levels. Gotham got a much needed neon makeover and Batgirl was not only Alfred's niece, she was a blonde too! And the late Jeep Swanson really portrayed Bane with such emotion, he broke my heart.

2)Roger Corman Presents: The Fantastic Four - A movie so breath taking, it never was released. It is believed if Marvel actually released this movie, they could never make another movie that could ever make more money or of better quality.

1)Elektra - After her breakout performance in Daredevil, it was natural to give Jennifer Garner a spinoff. With her range of emotions and tremendous acting ability, she wouold kill as Elektra and bank some big bucks. Plus the story was so close to the source material it was the perfect movie to release durring the big movie month of January.

Wow, I don't think there's that much cheese in Wisconsin, California, and Switzerland combined.

Ironic that we both had at least one match.

Seriously? Transformers is the *best* comic book movie of all time, when it had essentially NOTHING in common with any previous incarnation of TF-dom beyond the root premise and character names? For turning the absolute coolest MFing bot in town - Soundwave, obviously - into the bastard robot child of Jar-Jar and Sebulba; Michael Bay deserves to rot in Satan's syphilitic bunghole for 7 Eternities.

Alright, everybody pull up a chair. This is gonna take a while...

Kidding, just kidding. I just don't see anything good about the movie beyond the base fact that it exists. It made way too many arbitrary changes to what the vast majority of fans *really* wanted - a straight G1 movie - and gave nothing better in return. Seriously, change the character names and there's absolutely nothing to prevent it from being called a GoBots movie, or any other random 'robots turn into everyday stuff' movie.

As to the truly great 'comic movies'; you gotta expand a bit to include 'comic-inspired' movies as well as adaptations of direct comics.

I can't put these in order as they're good movies, period; and ranking them doesn't really show anything more than arbitrary personal preference.

DarkMan - Sam Raimi, Liam Neeson, even more farking ugly than Anakin at the end of RotS; what more do you need?

The Rocketeer - pretty much the most perfect straight adaptation ever.

300 - Again, pretty much putting the exact thing seen in the comic on the screen.

Blade and Blade II - If it weren't for Blade, pretty much none of the comics flicks we've been enjoying for the past decade would have happened; and Blade II was pretty much perfect in every way.

Hellboy and Hellboy II - While there are very large liberties taken with the overall tone of the mythos, and the romance between Red and Liz; it's one of the few times where the director's influence actually works better than the root material (altho I think the Mignola comics are damned near perfect and work better than comics based on the movies would work).

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight - Not quite the Batflicks anyone *really*really*really* wants to see; they succeed simply by taking the premise and mythos seriously. The guy watched his parents get murdered at 6 years of age; it's not something to lampoon, dammit! Make a friggin' Plastic Man movie if that's what you wanna see.

The Punisher - I've not seen the new one, but I'm hearing it's pretty much exactly what Punny fans want and like. However, I'm not a big Punny fan and really appreciated Jane's portrayal that showed how much Frank grieved and drank to bury his misery. That's not a side I see in a lot of comics, and it totally works to make Frank sympathetic. Playing up the whole 'Old West' vibe really works well, too.

SpiderMan and SpiderMan II - Yeah, 3 sucked because Sony forced Raimi to wedge Venom in it; but it wins for me simply because Bryce Howard makes for a stunningly hot Gwen Stacy. Damn she's nice as a blonde. Anyway, this is another example of how fidelity to the core material makes for great comics flicks. Raimi was a fan of Spidey from way back, and didn't feel a need to make 'his Spidey' flick. I wish more directors thought this way.

Iron Man - I'm sensing a trend here. Let somebody that's a fan of the character as he/she is do the movie, and you'll get a good movie.

X2 - Hot monkey crap, we *finally* get to see Wolvie actually kill some dudes. Plus NightCrawler was pretty damned faithful to who he is, if not how he looks. X3 failed to me by throwing away the Phoenix flames in favor of some goth chick makeup effects. Stupid choice, Ratner!

While technically originating in comic books, it's not quite right to put The Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, and Ghost World here because, let's admit it, we all think 'superheros' when we think 'comic books'. Hopefully, we'll be able to put Watchmen at the top of all these lists in a couple months.

I really liked Ghost World, but I never read the comic.

And as for your rant on Soundwave in the TF Movie, well he wasn't in the first one, that would be Frenzy. Soundwave will be appearing in the sequel.

I'm a G1 fan 'till I die!

I was stoned watching the movie, and it didn't set-in until I got home that they messed Soundwave's character up. I was so pissed that they made Soundwave look like a little bitch. As most know, Soundwave is my favorite.

.......I was so glad when it was later explained that it was Frenzy.

Plus Transformers isn't really a "Comic Book Movie".

Yes, Transformers have had a comic book. But it was an adaption of pre-existing material.

I would have never guessed you were a Soundwave fan lol.

But Frenzy was entertaining at least. He made me laugh. Maybe he was intended at first to be Soundwave, but I'm glad it didn't turn out to be the case. I think they realized Soundwave needs to be treated with respect as he is a fan favorite and saved him for the sequel.

I really hope Frank Welker does his voice and it's synthisized like the cartoon.

Peter Cullen made the movie for me, it was epic to hear him as Prime again and on the big screen.

My motto:
"Soundwave Is The Hardest Transformer Ever!"

Yes, Frenzy was a joke.

If Soundwave doesn't have a synthesized voice, I'll ki....Er..um, he better sound like the original cartoon! I think us G1 fans would really appreciate Bay recruiting Welker to be Soundwave.

Also, I always thought my boy looked like the Decepticon symbol. Megatron & Starscream looked ugly as hell in the movie. Hopefully Soundwave will look something like this:

I love that picture, but he probably won't look like that.

Also the the d-Con symbol is based on Soundwave's head. Originally he was going to be the decepticon leader but they changed their mind.

And aanother bit of trivia, The Autobot symbol is based on Prowl/Smokescreen/Blue(silver)streaks head.

Yup, Whoever designed this Soundwave head gets MUCH props from me!

Heh! I was right! He should have been the Leader.

Can you tell me where the information about the symbols/heads is?

Oh, yeah; I hate their 'exposed' look. That shiat's waaaaaay more primitive than smooth rounded or squared-off cover panels simply because tossing a mere rock into a BayFormer's exposed gearing would incapacitate him easily. Hell, all you'd need to take down the entire Decepticon Army would be a sand-blasting gun.

And what was the point of having Skorponok in the movie if he didn't transform into anything?

I couldn't get past how Scorponok, one of the biggest G1 Decepticons, ended up being one of the smallest Movie Decepticons.

Sin City, Spiderman 2, Spiderman 3(liked everything about it except how Venom was rushed in, Eddie Brock's intro was fine and how Parker screwed him over, but Venom could have waited), Dark Knight, Batman Begins, X2, more later...

Who knew my little list would generate this much discussion?

As for Transformers being my #1, I realize it wasn't exactly based on a specific comic, but the basic story was the same as the TV show and original comic: Two warring factions of an alien world extend the conflict beyond their homeworld to Earth.

And Soundwave is my all-time favorite TF character, so believe me I would be upset if he got screwed over in any way. That didn't happen in the first movie. Yes, Frenzy's role was at one time going to be Soundwave. So was Blackout's. However, as they were fleshing out the script, the writers realized they weren't writing Soundwave in either case and changed the names. With ROTF, we will be treated to the true Movie Soundwave and I, like Flint, hope he will be voiced by Welker with the synthezized voice.

I enjoyed Frenzy for what he was - a minor threat that was played more for comedy than anything else. I've never looked at him as a poor man's Soundwave. If anything, I was upset that Frenzy got some time to shine and Rumble gets left out in the cold.

Anyway, getting back to my list, there are several other movies I would have loved to add, but we're limited in this forum to lists of 10. Not to mention the fact that I specifically said to list your favorites, and those were some of mine. Some of the others I would have liked to add were Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Sin City, 300, Daredevil (I liked Bullseye and Elektra), X-Men 2, and Darkman. I also hope to add Hellboy II and Watchmen to that group once I see them.

I've heard that too. I'm not all that surprised Fox suits waited until a few months before the release before they brought up rights issues. Still, seems a bit shady and underhanded.
