^Oops, my bad. I meant to say, there are better options than putting these characters in single packs. But I'm actually interested in Namor because I don't have the SDCC Invaders boxset. I never liked the single pack Namor so I'm gearing for this one. But if I was asked to pick, I'd rather have a 3 new characters than Hasbro picking up these 3 characters again.

Rescue Bots, not really interested in collecting toys ment four the youngest fans.
Star Wars Transformers, are Star Wars, not Transformers, they're transforming Star Wars toys, ment for Star Wars fans, and have little to nothing to do with Transformers, or the transformers design team, even. They're TFs in name alone.

Prime, by their designs, by fiction, is just more movie. Heavily movie-inspired designs, very movie inspired setting. It's just basically more movie to me.
Ummm... just coz you aren't interested in it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Transformers has a huge presence at the toy fair. I think it's a healthy selection of TF to appeal to a wide group of TF fans.

Also, TF: Prime has NOTHING to do with the bayformers. The ONLY similarities are Bumblebee's squeaks and Prime's sword arm. That's all. The fiction stands alone and is actually closer to Beastwars than bayformers. I am not a fan of the live action films, and even less interest in TF: Prime, but at least hate it for the right reasons!

GI Joe as they manage a mix of past and updates. It's also really nice they keep reissuing older figures for the fans who might not have started collecting as early as other fans.

Transformers Prime. I really like the designs on the cartoon so it's nice to see they translated well into plastic.

Thundercats. Just a really good showing for a brand that is attempting a come back.

Miss

Movie toys for the most part. A good figure here or there but way too many figures that looked rushed and seem doomed to warm shelves for a long time. I also worry they will crowd out things like Marvel Universe at many retail stores.

Dark of the Moon toys. Really don't like the aesthetic of the movie related toys so not looking forward to dealing with the flood of movie toys in the way if anything not movie related is out at the same time.

Shock

I'll have to say the Starscream Skystriker. Hasbro has been so dead set against mixing GI Joe and Transformers that it just seems shocking they would actually mix the brands even for something that will be an exclusive.

Last year we saw quite a few Transformers Generations toys for the first time so it was always going to be difficult to live up to in my mind.

Anyways, very happy to see legends Powerglide - I was just starting to try and convince myself of the merits of the Ultra Roobs version.

Awesome to see Invisible Woman and Dr Strange are finally on their way.

Even happier to see Generations is continuing, although I suspect it will probably just be the 'hinted at through instructions' repaints rather than any new molds.

Delighted to see there's a 3.75" Mortal Kombat line on the way, wasn't too worried about the lack of actual figures as the news alone was enough to brighten my day. Shame we didn't see any Streetfighter figures though as that was mentioned a while back.

The biggest dissapointment for me was the lack of a Dragonzord - I held off for an entire year from buying one on ebay as we were told we would get a new one (having waited for several more years because buying vintage Transformers was more important to me).

Yeah, but you can't really blame Mattel for speculation and unofficial leaks. It's not like they could suddenly work up another 6 months' worth of product and have it ready for Toy Fair just because some folks had made reasonable guesses as to what was coming.

hits: mcfarlane - reach line, i think they are going to make everything from this game at somepoint, really cool. Bandai - thundercats, they are really doing quite a bit if fan service with both the classic and next gen versions.
Misses: jazwares, great licenses not one damn prototype. sad face. hasbro's spiderman line, really looks like they raided the plans from the late 90's. i'm a huge spiderman fan but i'm not so big on where the are going with this.

Prime is *nothing* like Beast Wars, in writing style, or World Setting.
The designs are movie inspired, and the story set up is pretty much movie, without the Allspark, and better characters.
Optimus, in appearance and personality is almost exactly movie. Bumblebee, same thing. Megatron, same thing (At least in personality).

If TF Prime were closer to Beast Wars in any way, I'd actually like it.

Anyway, as for the rest, speak for yourself. My comments were my views and opinions, and I don't really care to be told off because they don't meet your criteria.
So get off your soap box.

geeeeeeeez dude. lighten up. prime may have nothing to do with bayformers in the sense of plot and storyline but the characters definitely have a similar design. saying that prime "is actually closer to beastwars than bayformers". is a stretch. i do not see that. at all. i mean...the bots don't turn into beasts sooooooo

DC Young Justice figures (6" scale) - absolutely must have.
Masters of the Universe - Not collecting any of these, but seeing those awesome figures made me want to.
Thundercats - looked much better than I expected them to.
MU - The Sentinel. It looked awesome.
GI Joe - big hits. 1) Zaranna. I hope they make this SDCC exclusive, just to piss off a lot of Joe fanboys. Nerd rage amuses me. 2) The Skystriker was great. Normally I don't buy big vehicles, but I might this time - at least try for the SDCC Starscream repaint.

Misses:
DC Young Justice (4" scale) - Yay. More overpriced happymeal toys.
3.75" Streetfighter and Mortal Kombat - I'm excited for this line, but they should have at least had some prototypes up.
MU - the rest. Other than the Sentinel, nothing really excited me.
GI Joe POC - not as good as I had hoped. Still gonna buy them though

Heh. Thanks. I was starting to second guess if I was overreacting.

Rescue Bots for the little tykes. Plus the news about Generations continuing alongside DotM instead of being absorbed by the latter or disappearing altogether.

Like I said, if you don't like any of it, that's cool. It's your opinion and you have a right to it. But those other lines are not, in any way, part of the Dark of the Moon toy line (or any movie line, for that matter). So what I said still applies: there were more Transformers toys and merchandise at Toy Fair than just DotM stuff.

Nicely stated....

....but then there's the second part.

And I wouldn't really consider those accurate reasons, either. Transformers: Prime was meant to be a sequel to War For Cybertron, which was itself meant to be a prequel to the movie trilogy. Granted, Hasbro has done a really piss-poor job of maintaining continuity in that regard, but that was their original plan. So technically, one could consider Prime toys to be an offshoot of the movie lines (and Generations, since WFC toys were in that line).

Personally, I consider TF:P to be a self-contained universe and unrelated to either the movies or WFC. Though I can see some Beast Wars elements here and there, I think the show is mostly a mix between Movie and Animated.

Never said I blamed them. Just said that it was a miss for me, as in I was disappointed with their showing at Toy Fair. I was hoping for more regarding MOTUC and felt like I didn't get it, especially when compared to all the other things Mattel and Hasbro announced/debuted there.

WFC is a new continuity with Prime. That is, the BOOK series is. The games are meant to be more towards G1, like IDW. The book on the other hand is part of the series bible to prime. Neither of which are tied to the movie whatsoever. The movies are their own universe. Just like the movie comics tie to the movie comic adaption, and not the movie itself.

TFP shares cues from all over though, you have a bit of beast wars, g1, movie, animated, and more in it. So really it's influences are not any singular source, but yes part of its series bible is the exodus book, and potentially the follow up book. The games are another matter as they are a visual medium, but this isn't new to transformers or really any property for that matter. Material usually varies per medium, unless it can blend like Exodus to Prime since exodus isn't a visual medium.

So no it's not movie-tied, or WFC(Game)-tied. It just shares cues from all sources similiar to how animated did. Similiar to how beast wars did the same which amalgamated elements of comics to toon.

The design cues stem from animated, movie, BW/BM, and some G1. The personalities are about the same as the personalities ever are, just better defined from their origins this go round than previous. I wouldn't say the personalities are really movie based, as Prime has really always been the way he is. This iteration just gives him a bit more brains than previous. Other than bee's vocal aspect, there really is nothing that screams 'this is movie-verse' except for allspark references that were explained in exodus(which is prime tied and has lots of G1 nods).

This isn't a discussion about Prime the series though, this is a discussion about Toy Fair 2011. So maybe it should be taken to a new topic about prime instead.

Anyway, I'd also like to Kre-O's to my hits list, those little 'lego men' TFs are all kinds of awesome.

I also really dug how they showed that arcee's wings were adjustable.

Overall, I'm really only disappointed in the Mattel YJ line up for them using sculpts instead of finished products, and ditto to Jazwares for using packaging samples instead of prototypes or products. It's always underwhelming to see the "we're planning on" stuff as opposed to something that'll represent the final.

As I've said elsewhere (But don't remember exactly where), I'll believe it when I see it.
They said the same thing about both Universe and Animated, that they would both run alongside RotF, but both were cancelled. Months ahead, in the case of Animated.

So while I hope they live up to their word, I'm not going to bet on it.
So come October and new waves of generations are still being released with no end in site, I'll be absolutely thrilled to admit that I'm wrong.
As is, movie Powerglide seems to be a reshuffled RtS toy, and the new headed repaints that don't officially "exist," would be increadibly easy to shuffle into future movie waves.

But again... by the goddess belldandy... pleaseletmebewrongpleaseletmebewrongpleaseletmebew rong.

In Transformers Prime Starscream, Soundwave, Ratchet and Arcee don't look anything like their movie counterparts so I don't think it's an arrangement for it being a movie series just because Prime and Bumblebee share some design elements with the movie counterparts.

Plus I think there was some interview with the writers or producers somewhere that they said they wanted the writing to be something like Beast Wars.

So it's a show that is mix of all sorts of things thrown together into one series. I mean heck Bulkhead is from Animated so you can't say the show is only influenced from one source.

Misses: I really wanted to see something surprising. I was encouraged about Street Fighter and MK, but was'nt there some company that was making some type of "Joe" like figures that they showed at JoeCon last year? Are they really gonna make some figures? I had hoped to see something like that. Unimax is doing some 1:18 video game figures, I had hoped to see if they had more offerings. Maybe some 1:18 military figures.

[quote=Snowflakian;96307]*well thought-out explanation of TF:Prime's continuity and influences*

Agreed. As I said, Hasbro's original intention was that it was all supposed to be connected in one overall universe going forward. Unfortunately, that is clearly not the case. Well, at least not without some major retconning in future installments in one or more of the three sources (show, game and books).

And that's also a major reason why I choose to consider TF: Prime a stand-alone continuity, like Animated or RiD.

Well, technically Universe did appear on shelves alongside ROTF. But it was mostly (if not all) redecos of previous molds and store exclusives.

I hope we still see new molds for Generations in October as well. But it could end up the same as Universe. Hasbro did only say it would continue through this year.
