Thats really cool, I really wanted to love this movie but it just felt weak - like Robocop with the balls cut off.

The figure looks good. But it's still of a design that I think is only okay. I saw the 1987 Play Arts Kai Robocop yesterday and that actually looked better than I thought when in person. The place had it marked up a bit too high for my liking, but I may just pick that up.

I really liked the design of the 1.0, so I managed to pre order this one the first chance that I could, regardless of how the movie came out. I like many others really thought that the movie could have been something special, but as I was watching it I could not help but really feel like the director was being squeezed into making decisions that he did not want to make or agree with. Besides the wanton violence, profanity, satire, wit, sarcasm and mean spirited-ness, the soul of the movie was just not there. I simply didn't care about the human element of Alex Murphy.
While I could see they were trying to center the movie more around the human elements, it actually came off less effective this time around. You really could feel the torture and agony Alex Murphy was going through as he slowly starts to piece things together to win back his humanity in the original film. The gut wrenching scene where Robo tours his old house in the original film as flashbacks haunt him, or in the ending line of the original, in which Robocop gives the old man his name, was far more emotional and triumphant than anything the new film had to offer. It really showed off the triumph and unkillable spirit that is the human soul. In the reboot, we were simply given a set of floating lungs and a crying head, and then him being almost completely cool with that in the next shot. Story was sacrificed for spectacle, and in the process, the message was lost altogether. Regardless of the movie's failure to impress, I still think this design was really slick. I can't wait for my Hot Toys Classic Robocop to come in so I can pose these two side by side, different scale or not. Last edited by Trivial Psychic; 05-27-2014 at 09:47 PM.. |
