I know there is some bad blood with fans over the design of this Storm Trooper, but I like it...Nifty pics, also! I like the running photo and the provocative (stir up the nerd-rage) photo of him with his foot on the old trooper helmet! Funny!

Great shots! The original design is still my favorite, but I want this too, especially since it looks like we're going to see a good deal of it, judging by the teasers and online scuttlebutt.

Abrams demonstrated to some extent with his work on Star Trek that he respects continuity and likes treating the fans to cinematic Easter Eggs. Since 'First Order' is reportedly a splinter group, not part of the old Empire, we may yet see some or all of the original armor in the new movies, especially if there are flashbacks.

Of course the original armor will always be my favorite but this new set is growing on me, I like it more than the Attack of the Clones armor. The only thing I don't at all like is the guns also having white on them.

@ Tony: BTW, I really appreciate those close-ups. What did you use, a microscope?!

Maybe I'm the only person, or just one of few, but I really never liked the original stormtrooper armor. It just looks strange, clunky, and just weird. I know people will argue that that's the charm of it.. But at the end of the day the look of that design plus their inability to aim accurately just makes them seem more like comic relief rather than troops of vader.

I like the phase 1 armor (especially in the clone wars show) and I think the phase 2 armor is the best. This new stormtrooper is better looking than phase 1 but not as good as phase 2.

I really liked that the clones used different colors and accessories to denote rank, battalion, and overall individuality. I wish the stormtroopers carried some if that over. Especially these new ones.

I can't stop noticing the white on the gun now...no real need to fashion accessorize your weapon as a soldier...unless you are in a video game.

It seems pretty obvious J. J. Abrams is distancing himself from the prequels as much as possible. All the better, only Revenge of the Sith is watchable nowadays compared to Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones. I maintain my rank of the six movies being from best to worst:
Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Return of the Jedi (damn Ewoks)
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace (Jar Jar, kid Anakin, and Maul was only in it for like ten minutes)

I totally agree, I wasn't a fan of the prequel movies.. But from them (and the clone wars show) I really liked obi-wan, the clones, and grievous. Anakin was absolutely horrendous. There was nothing about him that made me feel anything.

Honestly. I'd love to see the prequels done again, but better.

I must admit that I do enjoy Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan, he fit the role very well. Samuel L Jackson as Mace Windu was awesome, Christopher Lee was terrific, Liam Neeson is my shit! There was a lot of good casting in the prequels, just Anakin drug things way down. For all of their faults the prequels do contain some juicy nuggets that can be enjoyed.

I suppose if a stormtrooper walked into an Apple store, this is what you would get.

ITrooper.

That's what I'm calling it from now on.

But here's what's weird. I like the design. I think it's an evolution if a soldier were looking to have a more flexible armor that you could move in. The use of the biker scout knee pads and bicep braces really help with the look. The streamlined helmet also looks good. And even though I kind of have an aversion to one more trooper instead of different characters, come September/October I'll look for one.
