My TRU sux, but it was the only place that I could buy new Joes like the most recent 2 packs and 3 packs. I also got an Eaglehawk from TRU... I always wanted that toy since I never had one as a kid... that was such a good day. I think retail Joes are completely dead without TRU.

I for one am sorry to see TRU go. From going there as a kid to taking my kids and granddaughter there...it has always just been a fun place to visit. Ole Geoffrey will be missed by many.

No, what I meant is that I have been trying to pay the card off (either in full or huge chunks) each month so that I can use it whenever they get the new waves in stock or my g/f pines away for a new Lego set to build.

However, if I'm not going to be able to use the card much longer, there's no point in dropping $200 on one month's payment anymore. I'll just pay off the bare minimum each month until it's paid off.

So those are the worthless fuckheads that used TRU to make themselves richer?! I hope they all choke to death on a stack of quarters.

My TRU is terrible too but I still hate to see it go. Also, no it isn't the consumers fault. As stated it is mostly the debt problem. They have been adapting and doing better it is just too little too late.

A lot of the neat niche collector stuff that we've been getting in recent years is going to go away forever if TRU closes, and that's a fact; companies like NECA will almost certainly have to scale operations back, take less chances, limit production runs, etc. I am so fucking bummed.

Plus, as stated, this isn't really TRU's fault. They were saddled with an insane amount of high-interest debt by the asshole private equity firms that bought them out in the mid-2000's. Even with a dip in business they'd probably still be fine today without all of that hanging over their heads.
Came in here to slag 'em off, and then you had to go and be informative. Good job ruining my fun man.

Toys r us is a huge name, they may have to liquidate, they may even close and sell off buildings, ( remember these big companies are worth billions in property alone) but the name has value as well, someone will make a mega toy store, weather it’s TRU, or someone else to fill the vacuum. Just like if John deer went out of business tomorrow the next biggest tractor company would step up. My guess is some large investor group will buy it up for pennies on the dollar and straighten it out before it goes entirely tits up...

PS.. who the fuck makes any business arrangements with “Bain capitol” they might as well call themselves “super villains inc.” shit just sounds evil.

I remember those glory days of Toys-R-Us. It seems mind boggling these days to think just how many of your favorite toys they could fit inside of one store. It almost seemed impossible to go there and not find something you were looking for. Purchased a lot of video games there as well back in ye old days.

But now a Toys-R-Us run for me is drive 35 or 40 miles to find they have nothing I collect in stock. That 35 or 40 miles back home with nothing to show for the trip just makes it so discouraging to make a Toys-R-Us run. The website is even worse than the in-store disappointment, just less gas to burn.

Just such mixed feelings on things like their Marvel Legends exclusives. They would somehow get the cool stuff for an exclusive but I think out of all their Marvel Legends exclusives I was only able to snag two over the years. I got to using the nickname of Scalpers-R-Us because as a collector you really didn't have any chance at the exclusives.

Wal-Mart exclusives, Target exclusives, Walgreens exclusives were something I could track down, but forget about finding that exclusive at Toys-R-Us. I know it's kind of bad taste to kick someone when they are down, but it seems like could have done more to keep collectors loyal instead of feeling like Toys-R-Us wasn't a good place for a collector to make a toy run.

Guess it's just part of getting old to watch things go away. Heck I remember back when there was a thing called GI Joe at toy stores so anything can have an expiration date, even Toys-R-Us.

I think both TRU and Walmart didn't come to where I live until the early 90's... Target came in 2009. LOL. So my fav toys spots as a kid were Woolworth & KayBee. So from a nostalgic perspective I miss KayBee way more than I will ever miss TRU.

I think Bain Capitol was the company that took down KayBee too. Best Buy came back from the brink, so I'm sure with proper management TRU could have survived.

Smart businesses own the land they have their buildings on and lease out space for additional income. These are typically the exceptions with most businesses being the ones who lease the buildings. I typically see TRUs near malls and other smaller shopping centers, so I very much doubt they own their properties

They have both, owned and leased. The initial list of 180 stores were all leased ones. Over half of the remaining U.S. stores were owned by the company. The one by me survived that first cut solely because it was owned outright.

Just stopped into the store by me. The entire parking lot was packed and they had 3 registers going. I've never seen it that busy…ever.

This is depressing. I was just starting to hunt in person these last few years. There's a TRU right by my apartment, I'm gonna hate having to go to Target solely. End of a freakin' era.

Man... while I'n gonna miss the feeling others have mentioned of walking into a store and just being entirely surrounded by toys, and I'm definitely scared to see what effects this has on smaller toy companies, I think the biggest negative for me right now is the fact my sister is probably going to lose her job.
