IDW Publishing has issued a press release for the upcoming Transformers: Nefarious mini-series. The six-part mini-series will start in March, written by Simon Forman with art by Carlos Magno. TRANSFORMERS Movie Continues in Comics New miniseries launches in March San Diego, CA (January 12, 2010) - The biggest movie of 2009 continues in IDW Publishing's latest series based on Hasbro's iconic TRANSFORMERS brand. Coming in March, TRANSFORMERS: Nefarious follows a shadowy organization, known as The Initiative, with devious designs on the TRANSFORMERS. Scripted by Simon Furman with art by Carlos Magno, this six-issue series takes fans on an action-packed mission as the robots in disguise fight to stop this unseen enemy. "It's time to move forward in the movie-verse and Furman and Magno are just the creators to do it," said Andy Schmidt, IDW's TRANSFORMERS editor. "Simon came up with a great idea and a fantastic story that Carlos is just hitting out of the park. I'm thrilled to be along for the ride and I'm sure fans will be too!" Picking up just months after the end of the blockbuster movie's storyline, TRANSFORMERS: Nefarious follows the all-seeing SOUNDWAVE as he leads the charge against The Initiative, and is joined by such fan-favorites as OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE and IRONHIDE. The threat is so great that all TRANSFORMERS must work together, forcing the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS to form a tentative alliance. Veteran TRANSFORMERS writer Furman crafts this thrilling tale, while Magno draws suspense into every panel. Brian Rood will contribute gripping variant covers. TRANSFORMERS: Nefarious #1 (of 6; $3.99, 32 page color) will be available in stores in March. Diamond order code JAN10 0963. Package variant collectors, prepare yourself. snkeyes069 of our 2005 Boards has confirmed a packaging variant for the 2010 Wave 1 Deluxe-class assortment. The variant centers around the N.E.S.T. logo featured on the plastic bubble. One version of the packaging features the N.E.S.T. logo as a sticker stuck on an indent on the bubble while the other version features the logo stuck on an indent in the inner plastic tray. There is not much of a difference, with the exception that the version featuring the sticker on the inner tray is a bit duller to the eye due to the layer of plastic over it. Check out the variant on Alliance Bumblebee by clicking on the thumbnail to the left.

TFW2005 Comic Reviews have arrived! The first of many comics to be reviewed is Transformers #3 by IDW Publishing, which will be released in comic book stores tomorrow - Wednesday, January 13th. Check out the review and a few new images from the issue by clicking on the Title Bar or thumbnail to the left.
Transformers #3 Credits Publisher: IDW Publishing Written by: Mike Costa Art by: Don Figueroa Colors by: J. Brown Letters by: Chris Mowry Editor: Andy Schmidt Associate Editor: Denton J. Tipton Covers Cover A – Art by Don Figueroa and Colors by J. Brown Cover B – Art by Andrew Wildman Retailer Incentive – Art by Don Figueroa Review Transformers #3 continues IDW’s first set of story arcs for the Transformers ongoing comics series, with the issue’s events occurring after the events of (the upcoming) Last Stand of the Wreckers Issue #1 and before the events of Bumblebee Issue #1. The issue follows three separate storylines: Ultra Magnus on Earth at the Autobot base investing the events that lead to Ironhide’s death and Optimus Prime’s surrender to the humans, Hot Rod continues to seek a way off of Earth under a newfound partnership, and Spike Witwicky seeks answers through any means possible. Writer Mike Costa inherited quite a bit of back stories through IDW previous mini-series as well as ongoing side stories in the current Bumblebee mini-series and the upcoming Last Stand of the Wreckers mini-series. Transformers #3 shows the strength in his writing, demonstrating how he has balanced the back stories as well as the content from the recently released Bumblebee #1. He also handles the three storylines in the issue quite well, offering seamless transitions between the stories through the use of a common phrase said in the last panel of the one storyline and the first panel of the next. Additionally, his portrayals of long-time characters haven’t strayed far from the familiar. Characters such as Hot Rod may be characterized slightly differently but not so differently that the character has been completely altered in terms of personality. The development of Spike Witwicky, however, is far different than any portrayal in the past. Whereas Issue #2 portrayed Spike as a womanizer, Issue #3 shows his manipulative side. Although it still feels as if they are setting him up for redemption, his character is getting less and less likable with each issue. Don Figueroa’s art in Issue #3 is consistent with that featured in the previous issue, with no change in the movie-style of Transformers design. If you’re a fan of the movie-inspired designs, you’ll continue to not be disappointed. Don also has a chance to show off a few new designs with Autobots such as Beachcomber, Huffer and Seaspray and provide fans a better look at his Jetfire and Ultra Magnus redesigns. The new redesign of Hoist re-enforces the notion that the new designs are inspired by the movie and toyline, as his redesign features elements of both the Hoist and Dropkick movie toys along with other common features. Transformers #3 continues to build on the excitement featured thus far in the ongoing. Although the issue did not featuring anything in the way of huge revelations, it does a great job of teasing several large events coming up within the storylines. This issue is a recommended pick up, although it’s becoming more apparent that you may also need to pick up the Last Stand of the Wreckers and Bumblebee mini-series as they are released to be fully cognizant of what is going on with the contents of this issue and the ongoing series. |

The new Transformers: War for Cybertron trailer has gone up on IGN! This awesome two minute long trailer does not show any in game footage yet, but provides a lead-in to the game's story, giving us our first glimpses of Megatron (with Energon Mace / Scepter weapon!), Bumblebee, Omega Supreme and Starscream in action, as well as extended footage of Optimus Prime. Those who have been following the various podcasts and interviews might remember a promise that certain characters who have not been used since Generation 1 will get some love and attention this time around, and the trailer delivers, with the return of the Decepticon mobile battlebase, Trypticon!
Check out the full trailer on IGN by clicking here, and then join in the discussion in our War for Cybertron discussion thread! Also be sure to check out these cool stills from the new trailer captured by KAGE of our 2005 Boards! |

In an interview with the LATimes on the process of making the sound effects and their importance in creating an atmosphere, Transformers live action movie series director Michael Bay has released some of the first hints of what to expect from Transformers 3, due next summer:
the third film -- which will hit theaters this[sic] summer, won’t be as robot-heavy and there will be fewer explosions, a tight-lipped Bay said after the Q+A. “There will be a nice crescendo ending,” Bay said. “It gets much more into the robot character. The last time you kind of met a few of the robots; this time you’re gonna get a much cooler landscape.” Check out the full article where the statement originated on LATimes and then join in the speculation on just what this might mean for Transformers 3 on our 2005 boards! |
