Third party group FansToys has released pictures of their next release, a unofficial remake of Generation 1 Shockwave. The design recreates the look of the original Shockwave, judging by certain design elements (the hands) it is liable to be a Masterpiece scaled release. Read on to view the images.
Please remember this is an unofficial product not licensed or endorsed by Hasbro or Takara-Tomy |

Time for another TFW Transformers Toy Gallery update. Today I am very happy to share with you all a gallery of one of my favorite new toys coming out in Fall of Cybertron Deluxe Wave 3, Kickback.
Why is Kickback so great? He is, basically, a well-made and fun toy. He transforms from insect mode to robot mode in a clever way that manages to be innovative without being overly-complicated. Both modes are quite striking with lots of purple and a little gold making for a particularly sharp look. In insect mode Kickback is not all that poseable - the insect legs can be adjusted but that's about it. In robot mode though you've got plenty of movement - just about everything other than a waist swivel, and nice big feet with ankle poseability to help hold those poses. Kickback comes with a big, disk-launching weapon and two clear plastic swords which form his wings in insect mode. The disk-launcher is a nice extra, but it is a bit heavy and hard for Kickback to wield. The swords though give a great range of poses. As you might notice in the pictures, Kickback inherits the Transformers Prime Insecticon's additional clawed arms, but if you do not care for the look then they can be stowed on his back. Where I personally feel Kickback truly shines though is the fact he can more or less fit in with three different types of collection. He will sit well with the other Fall of Cybertron toys of course, but he also goes with the Classics line and even fits in with the Prime line to a point. I've done comparisons of all three as a part of our gallery, which you can check out by opening the link below: Transformers Generations Fall of Cybertron Kickback Gallery |

Another recent posting from the official Transformers Facebook page gives us a creator commentary for Transformers Regeneration 1 #86. Simon Furman shares some thoughts on the creative process for this issue, which he says delves into two plot threads left hanging from the original comic series. He does admit in this commentary that perhaps he would not have tied up the story threads in quite this way back in the day though both were plot points he had evidently intended to address - make of that what you will.

It's Thursday, and that means another new bit of artwork from Mobage's Transformers Legends mobile game. Today's artwork posted on the official Transformers Facebook page features the Insecticon Chop Shop - a character who was released as a part of the original Generation 1 line's Deluxe Insecticons assortment back in 1985! He's had a bit of a reimagining here and looks a shade more organic than he used to. Check out the artwork by clicking on the link above.

Following on from our news story earlier this week that a Japanese release for Generations Blaster was in the works as well as a Fall of Cybertron Skywarp, we can now share some pictures of these releases with you - open the links to check them out. Skywarp is looking very awesome and also very purple, he is adopting the Alternity approach of making purple his primary color with black accents, rather than the reverse. Check him out along with Takara's Blaster and see what you think.

Hisashi Yuki, of the Takara-Tomy design team, has tweeted some new images of the Transformers Capbots. These new images show off the robot modes of Captimus Prime and Capticon alongside their packaging. In a fun coincidence (or was it by design?) the Capbots are demonstrated to be able to be worn as a baseball cap by none other than Fortress Maximus himself! How many of you will be buying one now for the sheer irony of a Fortress Maximus (or Brave Maximus, or Grand Maximus if you're lucky enough to own one) displayed wearing a baseball cap? Sound off on our 2005 Boards!

TV Shows on DVD has news of a new Transformers Rescue Bots DVD. Due out on 5 March 2013 by Shout! Factory, the DVD is titled "Transformers Rescue Bots Energize". The DVD runs for 110 minutes, so probably contains 4 episodes of the show. The cover, shown at left, features Optimus Prime, Blades and Chase.
There's no word on what is on the disk yet - potentially it will be a compilation of episodes from season 1 of the show, however, the new assortment of Rescue Bots shown at New York Comic Con 2012 was subtitled as "Energize", so this DVD just might tie into that assortment - and hence the show's second season - somehow. We'l keep you updated on any new developments. |

The third series includes Ratchet Spanner, Wheeljack Kunai, Starscream Boomerang and two versions of Dobo, the dragonfly machine gun. A nice gallery of in-hand pictures is up on Snakas' Facebook page, Autobase Aichi, showing off the individual Microns and their various features including a pair of new super combo weapons - a spear formed by Ratchet Spanner, Wheeljack Kunai and wave 2's Arcee Blade, and a huge cannon weapon formed by combining one of the Dobo's with the Starscream Boomerang and wave 2's Megatron cannon.

We have a reported sighting of the last pre-Beast Hunters Voyager from the Transformers Prime line. That's right, Transformers Prime Skyquake - who many of us had given up on as a victim of "late line release cancellation" - has been found at retail and purchased in the Philippines! The purchase was made by BoggeyDan on DeviantART. He has also shared some thoughts and in-hand photos of the toy, available at the link above.
Hopefully this means that Skyquake will be making it to the US in the not-too-distant future, and make Transformers Prime the first Transformers toy line in a long time to make it through retail with 100% of the announced toys released. |

Next up, we share with you another gallery from the Transformers Fall of Cybertron Deluxe Wave 3. Here comes a Decepticon whose record for treachery and deceit is legend. Yes, tonight we share with you this gallery of Fall of Cybertron Starscream!
Fall of Cybertron Starscream is, in this fan's eyes, level with Kickback for the best toy in the new assortment. His jet mode is suitably alien with a few nods to the various different interpretations of the design over the years. Robot mode is very good on the articulation with lots of movement in the arms and legs, nice big feet with sideways swivels to help with balance, but unfortunately as is par for the course now no waist swivel. The head, while capable of looking left and right, soon gets its vision interrupted by the shoulders, and the main torso is basically hollow from the way it forms from the jet mode. In my mind these are minor issues in what is one of the most fun little toys to come along in a while - Starscream looks great, holds poses well, and has a transformation which is a good balance between complex and intuitive. His weapon is cool as well, with a couple of display options which I have tried to capture in the gallery. Check out the gallery by opening the link below. We've got some nice cool pictures for you to check out, showcasing robot and jet mode, comparisons with the War Within (Titanium), Galaxy Force and ShopTo.net exclusive Legends Class War for Cybertron Starscream. There's also some pictures included in the gallery showing how Starscream looks wielding the Renderform Banshee Blade and wearing the third party Classics Starscream coronation gear - yes, it fits on this toy as well, not perfectly but good enough. If you recall this year's TFcon 2012 Third Party Panel, these silhouettes will be familiar to you, and based on what we've been shown, the first release will be an homage to Chromedome.

A lot has happened in the last two weeks since the last TFW2005 Creative Spotlight, where I took some time to check out some hidden gems in the creative subforums. This week we're being a bit more focused, with the return of Artist-focused Creative Spotlights by looking in the Fan Art subforum with Nyarlahotep's Boombox Bust.
Created in response to a contest done in the past here on TFW2005, I interviewed Nyralahotep regarding the creative process and tools used to create the bust. Check it out after the jump. |

Edge Online has posted an article looking at the upcoming Transformers Universe game by Jagex, the makers of Runescape. The article looks at the challenges of creating an MMOG based on Transformers. There's some talk about the gameplay as well - namely how the game is taking more of an action based approach than your usual MMORPG like World of Warcraft. There's discussion of the idea of how teamwork will function in the game as well as a description of a mission involving mining Energon near a dam, complete with Terrorcons showing up to attack both sides.
