e-HOBBY has updated their website with the bio of the upcoming Magnificius release, as well as a colored cover image of the comic that will be included with the release.
Please bear in mind that the translation of the bio is VERY ROUGH: Name: Magnificus Status: Exile Once Military Affairs Advisor for Mebion, Magnificus was betrayed by an unknown comrade and banished to frontier space. Forced to serve as a gun-for-hire, he has spent long years on the run from bounty hunters with his comrade-in-arms, Gamede. But the pair has finally found a means to achieve their revenge: body data stolen from Perceptor using Gamede's ability to shrink to atomic size! Redesigning his body using this data, Magnificus has successfully mastered the art of "Psychometry", which is the ability to see residual images by scanning objects and other lifeforms. Can Magnificus master this ability and use it to determine the identity of his betrayer? The e-HOBBY exclusive Magnificus will be available both through e-HOBBY and the Transformers Collector's Club. |

Third party group Excellent Toys have revealed a new unlicensed version of Optimus Prime. They are taking a different approach to the usual third party releases and going for a very cartoonish super-deformed style Optimus Prime - one that can actually transform, if these images are any indication. There are two versions shown, a classic style one with squared boxy arms and smokestacks, and one with a more modern IDW design. Box feature the IDW split chest design, though. Check out the preview image attached to this story.

...You read that right. Yahoo! reports that as part of a deal with a Chinese TV studio, Paramount is working on a show named Transformers 4 Chinese Actor Talent Search of which the four winners of the show (Two WITH acting experience and two without) will be given roles on the upcoming fourth film in the franchise.
HONG KONG – Having announced plans in early April for Transformers 4 to be a Chinese co-production involving the inclusion of some Chinese content, Paramount Pictures has now gone one step further in shaping the project along Chinese lines – by casting its Chinese roles through a reality television show, one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the country. Launched at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday, the Transformers 4 Chinese Actor Talent Search will be a new talent competition television show in which the four winners – two with professional acting experience, two without – will be granted roles in the next entry of the franchise. The show is set to commence broadcast in China in June 2013, with a panel of judges comprising Sid Ganis, the former head of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and the current chairman of Jiaflix; the film’s producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura and casting director Denise Chamian; Paramount’s marketing and distribution chief Megan Colligan. The film’s Chinese backers will be represented by Jia Qi, deputy director of the film’s Chinese co-producers China Movie Channel; and Liang Longfei, vice-president of m1905, the channel’s portal through which contestants (who need to be over 18) can register for the show. Producers said the four winning contestants will join “a number of talented Chinese actors and actresses” in Transformers 4. The third film in the franchise, Dark of the Moon, generated $165 million in China, and stands fourth in the country’s overall box-office rankings behind Avatar, Lost in Thailand and Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons. Through pre-recorded video footage, Ganis told the Chinese press that the show will “give actors and fans of the Transformers franchise the opportunity to be appearing in a major motion picture, and it will provide the world audience yet another glimpse of the Chinese people, the Chinese culture and China itself.” DiBonaventura added that his team “are looking forward to becoming more and more part of the Chinese audience’s experience by bringing the Chinese culture, Chinese traditions and Chinese talent into the movie”. By hyping the production of the film with a reality show, the Transformers producers have certainly tapped into the demands of China’s vast television audiences. The country’s viewers have become increasingly transfixed in recent years by this format, and the most-viewed programs today are dating shows as well as one in which celebrities participate in an extended period of training in high-platform diving. |

Are you Canadian? Are you looking forward to Fall of Cybertron Grimlock? Good news! Thanks to a sighting on sister site Cybertron.CA by user MitchPoer, it has been confirmed that the big bad dino of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron/Generations Voyagers has been released in Canada, sighted at a Toys R Us in Trois-Rivières, Quebec! While Grimlock is the ONLY confirmed release/sighting, please remember that as far as we know there are no revisions of the Second Wave of Transformers: Generations voyagers, so Blaster might ALSO be out at Canadian retail.

Nope, he’s not talking about Transformers 4 on this interview. Instead, Director Michael Bay took his time to talk about the Transformers Live Action Movie Series as a whole, when he spoke to New York Times during an interview about his upcoming movie; Pain & Gain. But there is a small tidbit regarding Transformers 4 at the very beginning of the article. It seems as though preliminary CGI Animation has begun and there is going to be a robot-to-robot battle in the middle of an unknown city.
“As Mr. Bay watched ILM’s preliminary animation for his latest“Transformers” movie, blocky images of giant robots trading blows in the middle of a city, his visceral reactions, often with variations on the word “cool” — “That’s pretty cool”; “We can do something cooler”; “Maybe you could get a nice slice through his face” — seemed to signal approval. On the first “Transformers,” Mr. Bay said, he was chided by Steven Spielberg for allowing actors to improvise too much. “Steven said to me, ‘Michael, I would like you to shoot something that’s in the script,’ ” he recalled. “And I was like, ‘Steven, this is how I work.’ ” Even if 80 percent of what he shot was terrible, Mr. Bay said, “You’re going to get 20 percent that’s gold.” There is also the baseline level of scorn that greets Mr. Bay’s new releases, delivered with a hostility usually reserved for corrupt politicians or industrial polluters. For a not-at-all-random sampling, consult Roger Ebert’s takedown of the 2009 “Transformers” sequel “Revenge of the Fallen,” which he called “a horrible experience of unbearable length, briefly punctuated by three or four amusing moments.” “Faust made a better deal” than Mr. Bay did, he added." Check out the original article at New York Times. It’s a good read for Transformers Live Action Movie Fans and Michael Bay Fans alike. |

Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac is preparing for Transformers 4.
According to an article on MLive: "Set building for "Transformers 4" - expected to get an official title soon - has already begun at the 535,000-square foot facility and has Michigan Motion Pictures Studios chief operating officer Tony Wenson excited. "They are in the process of pre-production right now," Wenson told MLive Detroit, when asked if Bay's film crew is in town. "They are filming in several other states, too. The majority of their shooting, I believe, will be done in the state of Michigan. “It speaks volumes about all Michigan has to offer that Transformers is returning once again to our state,” said Margaret O’Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office in a press release. “This project will shine another bright spotlight on Michigan and provide tremendous opportunities for our cast, crew and support services. Transformers 4 was awarded an incentive of $20 million on $81,933,992 of projected in-state expenditures. The project is expected to hire 368 Michigan workers with a full time equivalent of 339 jobs." You can read the entire article at MLive. |

Masterpiece Soundwave. That is all.
... okay, so perhaps a bit more explanation is needed. Masterpiece Soundwave is the thirteenth numbered release in Takara-Tomy's Masterpiece Transformers line. As a Masterpiece, he is meant to be the definitive version of the character, and this is something he succeeds at on nearly every level. He's a big and boxy robot like the original Soundwave, spot on to his animation model and with a transformation that balances the intricacy of a Masterpiece with a sensible approach - nothing so needlessly complicated or fragile as Masterpiece Starscream or Masterpiece Rodimus here. Masterpiece Soundwave comes with Masterpiece Condor (Laserbeak) - a tiny marvel of engineering in his own right, with a sharp, show-accurate look in his condor mode, deployable camera in his head, and amazingly his boosters are fully integrated - and all this in a toy no larger than the Generation 1 cassette. So yes, Masterpiece Soundwave and Masterpiece Laserbeak. 'nuff said, these two are my favorite new Transformers releases of the first quarter of 2013 and strong contenders for my pick as "toy of the year". They're that good. Check out the full galleries of both below, and see what you think. Transformers Masterpiece Soundwave Gallery Transformers Masterpiece Condor / Laserbeak Gallery Stay tuned for more galleries over the weekend - because what is Soundwave without his full complement of cassettes? |

Comic Book Resources has posted an interview with James Roberts, master Transformers comics writer and all-round good guy. The interview looks forward on a lot of great new material coming down the pipeline, including the upcoming "Remain in Light" five part story arc which concludes the first part of the More than Meets the Eye series, and also teases about Spotlight Hoist and what that story will entail. Furthermore there are the first hints of a massive crossover event running between both More than Meets the Eye and Robots in Disguise titled "Dark Cybertron", an event which James has this to say: "It's huge, involving hundreds of characters and -- like the end of the war -- it marks another turning point in the Transformers Universe."

Creator of unofficial WST Transformers toys Heero Toys Maker has updated his personal website with new prototype images of his upcoming WST Laser Optimus Prime. The gray prototype shown here suggests it will be slightly larger than the official Takara WST Optimus Prime. Given Heero's penchant for releasing redecos of his pieces, we can probably also look forward to a WST Laser Ultra Magnus and a WST Robots in Disguise Scourge up the road. This item is due for a release in June.

Next up in our series of galleries on Masterpiece Soundwave and his minions we have the first of the two sets that featured Soundwave's cassette minions. MP-15 added Rumble (the red one) and Jaguar (aka Ravage) to the Masterpiece lineup. Like Masterpiece Laserbeak they are no bigger in cassette mode than the original Generation 1 cassettes.
Of the two, Ravage stands out like Laserbeak for being a marvel of engineering - the rockets, an accessory on Generation 1 Ravage, are fully integrated here and a clever transformation means that Ravage gets a jaguar mode that is scarily close to how he appeared in the cartoon. I say scary purely because of how tiny he is - definitely one to read the instructions on first! Rumble meanwhile is equally impressive, less so in engineering (though the fact so much is packed into a small size is cool) but in poseability. Masterpiece Rumble has an insane amount of poseability for a toy around the same size as a Cyberverse toy. The fact he has a full complement of accessories including the iconic piledrivers, and that these can be used in some creative ways by Masterpiece Soundwave is the icing on a very sweet and tasty cake. Open the links below to check out their galleries: Transformers Masterpiece Rumble Gallery Transformers Masterpiece Jaguar (Ravage) Gallery Be sure to check back again later in the weekend for the third and final part of this series of Masterpiece Soundwave themed galleries! |

By way of the Twitter account of Japanese blog site Parkside201 we have some apparent retailer listings for new releases in the Transformers Go! line through September 2013. We know of the June and July releases already but the August and September ones are completely new - and also not exhaustive, since there is no listing yet for a Hunter Arcee or Hunter Megatron.
The listings are as follows: 22 June 2013 - all previously revealed, although G01 Kenzan is missing for some reason. G02 Jinbu ¥3,500 G03 Ganoh ¥3,500 G04 Gaidora ¥2,500 27 July 2013 - all previously revealed. G05 Gekisomaru¥5,500 G06 Hunter Smokescreen ¥2,500 G07 Bakudora ¥2,500 31 August 2013 G08 Budora ¥4,000 G09 Evil Demon Combination Goradora set ¥4,000 G10 Hishomaru ¥3,500 G19 Hunter Rachet ¥2,500 28 September 2013 G20 Sensuimaru ¥3,500 G21 Judora ¥2,500 In the August listings, Budora and Goradora share the "dora" suffix suggesting they are Predacons. The pricepoint suggests both are Voyager Class, implying one of them may be Grimwing. Goradora is either new or an Abominus giftset, Evil Demon Combination (Maou Gattai) implies some kind of combiner set as this is the same naming forumula used for past combiner giftsets both within the Transformers line and more widely in other mecha toy lines. Hishomaru is new, and priced similarly to other Japan only releases like Jinbu and Ganoh. Hunter Ratchet is a Japanese release of Beast Hunters Deluxe Ratchet. In the September releases, Judora once again has the kaiju-esque "dora" suffix and has a deluxe pricepoint, so will probably be the third of the three deluxe class Predacons being released under the Transformers Go! banner. Sensuimaru once again is new, and shares a price with the Japan only releases - odds are him and Hishomaru will be Japan exclusive releases along with the others previously revealed. |

Director Michael Bay spoke to Detroit Free Press to let us in on his Transformers 4 Filming Plans at Detroit. It seems we'll see more General Motors Transformers.
“I’ll be there in a month and a half,” says the director of his plans to shoot a big chunk of the fourth “Transformers” movie in metro Detroit. “We’re going to be shooting at stages, we’re going to be shooting around the city, we’re going to be shooting at GM a bit,” says Bay, who knows the city well and credits it with having a lot of good locations. Bay says he plans to put some other GM cars in the new “Transformers.” The movies have proved to be a plum marketing spot that has led to continuing efforts by automakers to win him over. Which GM Vehicles do you think will be showcased in Transformers 4? Speculate at the thread. |
