Thanks to Gamefly, we have with us our first look at the Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark Nintendo 3DS Boxart. The boxart features Age Of Extinction Optimus Prime, Lockdown, Grimlock as well as Fall Of Cybertron Megatron and Shockwave.
We can also notice what is speculated as "The Dark Spark", right above Optimus and between Lockdown and Megatron. The game is playable in both 2D and 3D and will release June 10, 2014. Checkout the art, after the jump. |

In 1986, Transformers entered its third year and featured the debut of the first assortments of Transformers toys that had been designed specifically for the Transformers line, with characters like Hot Rod, Kup, Galvatron and Metroplex making their first appearance this year. The Transformers comics continued strongly with the introduction of the RAAT and a crossover with G.I. Joe in the USA, and in the UK, a classic story, Target 2006. And on August 8, 1986, Transformers arrived on the big screen for the first time with Transformers the Movie - and a generation of children were shocked for life as they learned that sometimes, even heroes die.

A minor bit of news for you now, friends - the Transformers Age of Extinction toys are starting to arrive in Walmart's stock rooms. While the toys themselves are street dated until May 17th and will not be sold before this date, stores are now getting their stocks, ready to put out - and who knows, street dates have been broken before in isolated cases...
Thanks to 2005 Boards member Sidewave for the heads up! |

An interesting discovery comes to us from Kaufland supermarkets in Germany, who do not usually stock Transformers product. They are carrying a series of "Battle Disk Shooters" from Tomy's subsidiary Gacha. The disk shooters seem like something you'd find on the cover of the UK Transformers comic by Titan Magazines, and each one comes with a target, a disk shooter and a pair of disks. They're available in eight different styles, and while their packaging is done in the new 2014 standard style, the artwork used is as far as we can see from the Transformers Prime series.

Hound Meta has posted a new image to The Ragin Nation on Facebook, showing some official Hasbro photography of the Age of Extinction Dino Sparker Bumblebee with Strafe set. Like the other Dino Sparkers, Strafe "lights up" with sparks when he is rolled along a surface - the idea is this set can "joust" with other Age of Extinction Dino Sparkers as kids try to knock the riders off their Dinobot mounts.

Transformers Age of Extinction toys are supposed to be released on May 17th, 2014. Some form of online preorder event before that. As reported earlier today, Wal-Mart stores in the USA are starting to get their shipments of AoE toys, presumably to hold in waiting for that 5/17/14 date. But, of course, that has been ignored in at least one store so far. TF4 AoE toys are officially in the wild as of today. Couple that with the slew that are on eBay, coming from Chinese sellers, Canadian sellers, and other sources - if you want AoE toys you can probably get them right now. Check the pic after the break.

Fresh off our news reported yesterday about the newly revealed LA-01 Battle Command Optimus Prime from Takara, TFW2005 board member Powerglide1991 has supplied us with a new larger image of the product.
We get a much better look at the trailer and its various transformations as well as the Optimus Prime figure itself, which could possibly be a new, most likely simplified mold (we're judging this based off of the size comparisons with the Bumblebee figure also pictured). Check out the new images here and let us know what you think! |

A week ago, we reported that there are some signs over at Los Angeles that indicate some reshoots for Transformers 4 Age of Extinction. And looks like it was true.
Just Jared website managed to take couple of pictures from the reshoots that took place in Los Angeles on April 9. Looks like Mark Wahlberg and Optimus Prime (in Westernstar mode) have some business to take care of. Mark is fully clothed and has no wounds on his face so the scene they're shooting might take place in U.S.A. rather than Hong Kong. Maybe right before the fight between Optimus and Galvatron on Michigan highway. Check out the rest of the images at the attachments. |

For this week's issue, Entertainment Weekly focused mainly on this summer's blockbusters and of course Transformers 4 Age of Extinction is one of them.
In this two paged preview filled with new interviews, director Michael Bay explains that this is a whole new trilogy and a fresh start, but he's not entirely sure if he'll direct the sequels. Mark Wahlberg on the other hand, gives us a few plot details on how the government is now againts the Autobots and talks about the dynamic between his character and Optimus Prime who has lost all his faith in humankind. Lastly, Jack Reynor talks about the explosions and being have to act in front of things that are not actually there. The article also features a whole new screenshot of Grimlock and he looks like he's about to use his iconic fire-breath. Article also gives us a few facts about his T-Rex mode like it's ''150 feet long from the tail to the nostrils, 63.5 feet tall from the ground to the top of his horns, and weigh 850 tons.'' You can check out the photo of the article (provided by TFLAMB) and the transcript of the interviews after the jump. |

Proving that you cannot keep a good robot down, Optimus Prime returned to the land of moving parts in a two part episode titled The Return of Optimus Prime in 1987. The toyline began to diversify, introducing new gimmicks such as the Doublespy, Headmasters and Targetmasters. Meanwhile Japan diverged from the US cartoon continuity and got a new full-length series called The Headmasters, and for the first time, Transformers toys were released as Japanese market exclusives.

Thanks to GT, we have with us the Bumblebee Character Trailer for Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark.
"Serving as a follow-up to both the upcoming TRANSFORMERS live-action film and Activision's TRANSFORMERS: WAR FOR CYBERTRON and TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON titles, TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE DARK SPARK jumps worlds and factions as it weaves the tale of the hunt for an ancient relic as powerful as the Matrix of Leadership - the Dark Spark. Players will be able to switch between the heroes of the noble AUTOBOTS and the nefarious DECEPTICONS throughout the single-player campaign. Similar to High Moon Studios' CYBERTRON entries in the highly regarded series, gameplay features nimble, fast-paced running-and-gunning combat paired with traversal and vehicle action across open battlefields for large-scale, dynamic conflicts." The game is now rated "T for Teen". |

It seems as though Composer Steve Jablonsky and Imagine Dragons are working on the Score/Soundtrack of Transformers: Age Of Extinction.
Steve Jablonsky managed to produce some amazing music for all previous Michael Bay Transformers Live Action Movies while the band Imagine Dragons also delivered some amazing songs in the past; including Who We Are (for Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Demons and their super-hit song; Radioactive which was dubbed as the "Biggest rock hit of the year 2013". You can find their recent work, after the jump. This news is coming from a Facebook user who took an image during the recording session. Update: Imagine Dragons Official Facebook Page has been updated with an image hinting their involvement. |

The Transformers toyline released in 1988 was a continuation of the diversification of the line and the integration of more gimmicks into the line. Ideas used from the previous year, like six changers, Headmasters, Targetmasters and toys that shot sparks were all carried over, and other new gimmicks were introduced, including Powermasters, which used small engine Nebulans to unlock the transformation of their partner, and Pretenders, simplified robots who fit into plastic shells to masquerade and humans or monsters depending on the faction. 1988 was also the first year that the Transformers toys were downsized, with returning gimmicks simplified and the overall size of the toys decreasing.

Via a pair of pictures on Hasbro Australia's website accessible via Google Image Search, we can show you some new official images of the Transformers Age of Extinction Leader Class Grimlock in his robot mode and dinosaur mode. The new images confirm that compared to the sample of Grimlock on show at Toy Fair 2014, the Age of Extinction Generations Leader Grimlock we are getting at retail will have chrome on the dinosaur head, robot chest, and parts of the robot legs. It's all very shiny - but does the extra bling on Grimlock do it for you?

The NTF-Archive has posted some scans of a Takara-Tomy product catalog, which lists what we expect would be pretty much the entire product line for Transformers Age of Extinction. The product line up we have seen so far would appear to be the tip of the iceberg, with the Japanese releases in the Generations Age of Extinction series totaling up to 30 by the time all is said and done. Japanese releases for the one-step changer toys, including the stomp and chomp Grimlock and Power Battlers Dinobots are also confirmed.
The most interesting part of the product listings comes in the form of confirmations of future releases, which we were previously unaware of. Following the initial May - June releases, the following Generations series Age of Extinction toys will be released in Japan, potentially with tweaked or alternate decos: July 2014 - Leader class Grimlock, Voyager class Hound, Voyager class Galvatron, Deluxe class Autobot Drift, Deluxe class Strafe, Deluxe class Slash and one other Deluxe toy. While no picture is shown, the kanji in his listing suggest this one will be Lockdown. August 2014 - Another unknown Deluxe class toy who seems to have a vehicular form, which is another version of Bumblebee (the listing for the name shares the same characters as the High Octane Bumblebee listing). There's a second Deluxe class toy listed, this time with a silhouette of Grimlock suggesting a fifth Deluxe class Dinobot is coming out in Japan. It's just listed as "Dinobot A" though. September 2014 - two more Voyagers are shown, one with a "Bumblebee" silhouette suggesting a vehicular alternate form, and one with a "Grimlock" suggesting another Dinobot. However you take these listings, the implication is there are two more Voyagers to be seen and three more Deluxes, which matches with the original press release issued by Hasbro after Toy Fair 2014. The revelation here is that one of the Deluxes and one of the Voyagers may be a Dinobot - assuming Takara-Tomy is not simply doing their own thing. Update - it has been pointed out that AD-18 and AD-19 are not listed, so there are two more toys to come out in June / July in Japan who we know nothing about, yet. |

1989, the fifth anniversary of Transformers, saw the line in decline. With no cartoon in the US, and increasing competition from other lines including Ninja Turtles and Micro Machines, the Transformers toy line floundered. Pretenders stuck around, undergoing downsizing and simplification, and new pocket-sized Transformers complete with bases and vehicles called Micromasters were introduced. Japan continued in its own direction with almost no US imports in this year, instead making its own toys, and another new cartoon, Transformers Victory.

Hasbro US have also updated their online product catalog with new listings for the new Transformers Mr Potato Head toys. The four revealed, and on the site, so far are a larger Optimus Prime and Starscream which include parts to let them "transform" along with smaller Optimus Prime and Grimlock potato heads. Interestingly, the packaging identifies these Playskool offerings as a part of the Rescue Bots series, despite their Generation 1 roots.
The catalog update also includes entries for the Battle Masters series, although the links for them are not yet live. |

Hasbro's Australian website has updated its toy catalog with new listings for many of the Transformers Age of Extinction releases. The new listings include the first assortments of the Generations Deluxe and Voyager Classes, including Crosshairs and Bumblebee, Age of Extinction Construct Bots and Age of Extinction Kre-O. Of possible note is that the Kreon combiner sets Obsidian and Lazerbolt are here named as Firewing and Icebolt, though their original names are featured on the packaging, so it is possible that Firewing and Icebolt were the original working names for the sets - or the packaging in the photos is out of date.
Check out the new images attached to this story. |
