Business Insider has posted an interesting article explaining how Hasbro decides which toys it will turn into movies and the profit they get in return.
With several more brands set to get the movie treatment in the next few years, we spoke with Hasbro Chief Marketing Officer John Frascotti to find out exactly how the company selects which of its toy lines get adapted to the big screen and how you can possibly turn a board game into a movie. "We look for those brands that have story and character at their foundation because inevitably for any type of storytelling format, whether it's a movie, a television show, a digital comic ... it has to have great story and great characters at it's foundation," says Frascotti. All together, the "Transformers" franchise has brought in more than $2.5 billion worldwide. The two "G.I. Joe" movies combined have generated more than $600 million at the box office. According to Reuters, it's low risk strategy for Hasbro. The toy company pays around $1 million to develop script ideas and if a studio wants to go through with a film, Hasbro gets paid back the developing fee. After the film is in theaters, Hasbro reportedly receives 5% of the money a studio makes from theaters. The article also states that following the success of the Transformers and other Hasbro brand movies, movies based on Jem And The Holograms, Magic the Gathering and Ouija are on their way to the Big Screen. You can read more at the Business Insider. |

After a little bit of a hiatus on this particular project, third party/independent group ToyWorld has just made a splash with their homages to the Generation 1 Throttlebot team revealing their versions of Goldbug, Freeway, Wideload, and the team's combined mode! It's been widely speculated and assumed that this team of figures would combine, although not entirely confirmed until now. The reveal came down today over at ToyWorld's webpage, which also confirmed the expected release date for the remaining figures (although no preorder information is available yet):
* TW-T04 2014 * TW-T05 2014 * TW-T06 2014 Are you okay with your Throttlebots combining? Does the combined mode reveal make you want to track down these figures? Sound off on the boards with the discussion link below! |

As had been reported a short while back, it seemed that the Transformers: Age of Extinction toyline was off to a somewhat rocky start. And now, we have even more evidence to back that up. Disney Pixar Cars website TakeFiveADay has posted an interesting article examining the current state of movie toylines and toylines in general, of course focusing a lot on the current AOE line. Unfortunately, despite the movie itself performing well, it seems the toyline isn't, and it doesn't sound like the outlook is positive either. From the article:
"The #1 licensed toy line in America usually generates about $400-$500 million in sales a year. [...] At the rate the toys are selling, Transformers might still crack $225 million which is a lot but when you create inventory to sell $500 million dollars worth of toys? That’s not so good" It should be noted that this isn't just related to Transformers; toyline sales in general have been on the decline for a while now. This could potentially be bad news for not just Transformers fans, but fans of toys in general. The reasons for the decline in sales are numerous, and you can read them and discuss after the jump. |

The official Transformers Facebook page shared a full gallery of all the San Diego Comic Transformers Exclusives in anticipation of the event just a week away. We've seen many images of the exclusives already, including in-hand and on scene at BotCon, so if you're tired of waiting to have these in your collection and will not be at SDCC, use this as a reminder that the figures will be available on Hasbrotoyshop.com after SDCC in limited quantities (make sure your F5 key works properly!).
Enjoy the official image gallery after the jump. |

Have you had enough Dinobot action for one year? TOO BAD. Because HK-TF has posted a small gallery of the upcoming Age of Extinction Voyager Slog. This movie version of Sludge features a nice light grey, dark grey and red color scheme with twin lances. We've mirrored a selection of the photos from the gallery for you to review and share your thoughts on.

Megatronus 209 has spotted new, official images of Platinum Edition Silver Knight Optimus Prime on Facebook and has shared them here. The content has become unavailable so we are not entirely sure who the source is.
Unlike previous stock images of this Platinum Silver Optimus, these new images show chrome and metallic silver paint. The images also have Hasbro's typical "digitally airbrushed to hell" look so we aren't entirely sure if this is indicative of the final product(with regards to chrome and metallic silver paint). If you've seen the 1st edition Optimus, think of the chrome from that, carried over to this but with red flames on the chest. Read on to check out the images. |

Renderform have announced some new add-on and accessory kits! First up is a "Final Edition" version of their Nightshade add-on kit for Universe Darkwind. It's a reissued version of the popular RF-15 Nightshade kit that gives Darkwind a new head, with a more metallic tint compared to the original.
That is not all, though - Renderform have also updated their site with the Leo Justice Sword, Savior Shield, Magnum Hammer and Blackguard Slasher. These were available at Botcon but Renderform have now announced a wide selection of new colors for these weapons - there's a color to match almost any toy or shade of the rainbow! Check out the listings of all these kits on the Renderform garage kit homepage. |

Takara-Tomy have updated their website with yet more Transformers exclusives for the Japanese market. In this update they have added a page for the Age of Extinction Dinobots "Black Knight" versions. Scorn and Slug are getting the Black Knight deco this November, which involves painting the toys in a black deco with silver accents (and some red, in Scorn's case)
Black Knight Scorn is set to be an exclusive release through Edion, Kojima toy department, Bic Camera, Best Denki and Yamada Denki. Black Knight Slug is going to be exclusive to Joshin Kids Land Yodobashi Camera. Both are, as mentioned, set for November releases. The Takara-Tomy website has also updated with a page for the Movie Advanced EX Wheeljack figure, a white version of Dark of the Moon Que with the Generation 1 inspired Wheeljack head. This one we've seen before and is an Aeon exclusive, due in August. Enjoy this new and clear image of this figure! |

Takara-Tomy have updated their Transformers website with a listing for a store exclusive Movie Advanced Rollbar figure. Like the Rollbar we are getting as a part of the "Farmaggeddon" Breakout Scene set, Rollbar is a redeco of Generations Skids - based on the picture on Takara-Tomy's site, he's possibly even the same deco as the Platinum Series set.
According to the information Takara-Tomy posted, Rollbar will be a Toys R Us Japan exclusive and will be available in November 2014. |

2005 Board member Tcracker has got his hands on the upcoming Leader Class Generations Jetfire figure and has been nice enough to share some in hand images for us. This upcoming leader class toy offers us a much taller "classics" version of the character complete with red-chromed weapons and a cool looking battle helmet/faceplate. Tcracker shows off the figure in a variety of poses as well as both modes. He also gives us a comparison with Classics deluxe Starscream.

Ark Studio have announced their next third party Transformers project - an add-on for the Age of Extinction Leader Optimus Prime. The set is made up of a sword based on the on-screen look of the one wielded by Optimus Prime in Age of Extinction, and a shield which is designed to transform from the Movie Preview figure's version of the shield to the Generations one via some unfolding panels.
Some images of a prototype have been made available on the group's Weibo, check them out after the break. |

In a bizarre crossover, Takara-Tomy has decided to extend the 30th anniversary celebrations of Transformers into their Wixoss collectable card game - with a game of a blue-haired anime girl cosplaying as Optimus Prime. The card features the Optimus Prime girl set against the canyons where the Ark in Generation 1 came to rest, with Optimus Prime's combat deck visible in the background. The card is set to be included in volume 3 of the cards. For those curious about the game, be warned that some of the artwork on other cards might be considered not safe for work.

Las Vegas Licensing Expo is the San Diego Comic-Con for the businessmen. But that doesn't mean the expo has to be dull and boring. On the contrary, it's colorful as a mini SDCC.
At this year's Expo one company has stolen the spotlight; Hasbro. Dubbed by the press as "The Master Transformer", the company has presented its upcoming ventures including Transformers: Robots In Disguise and Angry Birds: Transformers. Though the event was held a month ago, it is only now that the Press and Media has started to reveal what was there at the Licensing Expo 2014. We have recieved some images and information regarding Transformers: Robots In Disguise from the expo for you to have a look. The info includes:

Friend of the site and site sponsor StylinOnline dropped us a line to let us know of their SDCC 2014 exclusives line up. Exclusives for anyone can be hit or miss, but this year's items from StylinOnline are pretty bad ass, even if not Transformers related.
First, they have a set of 4 Star Wars themed New Era 9Fifty Snapback hats. Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Stormtrooper and Han Solo each get their own outing. Each hat features classic iconography (Mythosaur Skull, Rebel and Empire logos) with full art on the brim. On top of the hats, they have 2 exclusive shirts with a very SDCC-centric theme. The first is a Star Wars AT-AT standing in front of the San Diego Convention Center with Tie-Fighters swooping in (pure win). The second features the Avengers and Spider-Man also in front of the Convention Center, though at night. These shirts and hats will be available at the StylinOnline Tower of T-Shirts booths 415, 5029, 5545 and also in the Lucas Pavilion Star Wars Booth 2913-J. Check out all the images after the break, and keep an eye on StylinOnline.com if you aren't hitting the show in case any become available online! ![]() |
