Thanks to a post from the twitter page of Takara designer Hisashi Yuki, we are reminded today of the 15th anniversary of Car Robots (know as the original Robots In Disguise in North America). Yuki tweeted out an initial draft sketch of what would become Fire Convoy (Optimus Prime) and it shows off some very cool design cues that were not carried over to the toy, most notably being the Maximal insignia on his chest. Yuki designed the Fire Convoy / Optimus Prime toy, be sure to follow his Twitter page today as he'll surely be sharing more great Car Robots history.
Car Robots as a series falls between two bigger continuities, the Beast Era and the Unicron Trilogy, and it was not very successful in its native Japan. However, when imported to the US as the first Robots in Disguise line, it reinvigorated the Transformers line after the lackluster performance of Beast Machines. More importantly, after five years of beasts dominating the line, it brought back realistic cars and other vehicles as alternate modes! Car Robots / Robots in Disguise has a very rich history here at TFW2005, so in celebration of the anniversary please enjoy another look at some things that celebrate this great time in Transformers history. Third party group DX9 Toys have unveiled an add-on set that they are making for the Combiner Wars Leader Megartron. This set gives the already-awesome Leader Megatron new hands, blocks to go under his feet, a muzzle for the cannon for a less tank-cannon look, and an extra, back-mounted cannon.
Do you feel these add-ons add anything to this figure, or are you happy with Leader Megatron as he is? Sound off in the discussion thread linked below. |

A very good cause is available to you for the next week or so if you feel charitable to donate to cancer research. The Rob Lenten Experiment is a charity auction to help raise money for cancer research, listing several pieces of art to support the cause. Many Transformers artists including Alex Milne, Livio Ramondelli, and several others are donating to the Lenten Experiment.

More news on the Combiner Wars front - the variant packaging for Combiner Wars Dragstrip, which now includes a comic, has been found at US retail. We've got reported sightings in New Mexico, the Oregon Coast, and Minnesota.
As Dragstrip includes a comic, the back of the packaging also has an extended bio for him, like the Wave 2 Combiner Wars Deluxes. TFW2005 member T-Hybrid has shared an image of it with us, which you can check out attached to this story. |

Actor and good friend of TFW2005; Mark Ryan is publishing his Autobiography (titled as Hold Fast) this April and it contains his adventures on the 4 Transformers Live Action Movies by Director Michael Bay.
Mr. Ryan is not only the Robot stand-in during the principal photography, but also the voice of several Cybertronians including Bumblebee, Jetfire and most recently Lockdown. "Recently he has become a familiar name as the voice of Bumblebee – the best loved robot in the ‘Transformers’ franchise, and found himself travelling the world, signing toy replicas of the famous yellow car. To date he has worked on all four installments of the hugely successful movie franchise, either as character voices or as the onset voice of the Autobots during filming. In the past year he has starred as Gates, a leading character in the Michael Bay produced, Starz Network TV franchise 'Black Sails'." You can grab more info from Mythwood Books. |

Takara Tomy just announced a new campaign they will be running that will include collectible G1 cards that come with purchases of the Transformers toy line from Takara Tomy Mall.
These cards are to pay homage to a similar campaign that was launched in 1986 during the third season of Generation 1, so naturally the card highlighted here is for Generations Arcee (a season 3 character). These cards are not for purchase, so obtaining them may be slightly difficult if you are living outside of Japan. Check out the Arcee card after the break! |

Some images showing what looks like the final product version of the SXS Toys Overclocking, aka Blurr, have been posted over on 78dm.net. Overclocking is based on the Cybertronian version of the IDW Blurr, which in turn takes inspiration from the original Generation 1 Blurr. It's roughly the size of Masterpiece Sideswipe, and by the looks of it, may be out soon.

Amazon has put up pre-orders for Combiner Wars Wave 3. This includes Hot Spot, the 4 Protectobots, Cyclonus, and Leader Thundercracker. They have the items listed with a June 15th release date which conflicts with many online retailers projected release of April 2015. Whether Amazon will be getting theirs later, is currently showing a wrong date, or other online retailers will have a delay is unknown at the moment. Many of these figures are finding their way into the hands of collectors already, so we'd assume it's one of the first two. Feel free to check it out along with high resolution images for the figures at the following link, and share what you find out on the forums!

The next DeNA Transformers: Legends event; Best Of Episode - Day Of The Dinobots, Part 1 is now live. This is a rerun of the original Day Of The Dinobots, Part 1 Event.
"The Dinobots have been behaving erratically at the Autobot headquarters. Grimlock and Swoop disappeared without a trace, while Slug, Sludge and Snarl were slowly becoming more and more aggressive. Slug announced he would not take orders from anyone until Grimlock returned and then he and the other two Dinobots headed in the direction of the Decepticon base. Wheeljack told Optimus Prime that he needed to scan the Dinobots to get the necessary information that would explain their malfunction. Optimus tried to reason with them, but the trio viciously attacked him. Optimus signaled Wheeljack, who used the distraction created by Optimus to apply the magnetic inducer on Slug. The inducer was not as effective as it should have been, but it gave Wheeljack the opportunity to get a full scan, just as the Dinobots overwhelmed Optimus. The scanned data was heavily corrupted, and it would take a while for Teletraan I to repair the information before analysis. Megatron was elated by the news of Optimus Prime having been badly damaged by the Dinobots and made plans to capitalize on it. Just as he was about to order a surprise attack against the Autobots, alarms started sounding at the Decepticons base. The Dinobots were approaching." |
