In 2002 Transformers underwent a new transformation as the “third era” of Transformers began late in the year when Transformers Armada was unleashed on the world. Though nobody, not even Hasbro, knew it at the time this line and TV show would be so successful that it would kick off a whole new continuity that would last for the best part of five years, the Unicron Trilogy. But that was not all, because in 2002, after a 10 year long absence, the Transformers finally returned to comics!

In 2003, Transformers Armada hit its stride and took everyone by storm, exceeding demands and giving fans a long-awaited toy in the form of a supreme class Unicron! The series also launched in Japan under the name Micron Legend where it enjoyed moderate popularity, though Japanese fans could not get enough of the Mini-Cons, called Microns in Japan. The Transformers comics by Dreamwave continued with more miniseries including War & Peace, the second series set in the “modern day” of Dreamwave’s Generation 1 universe. Simon Furman carried on his work, penning the remaining 12 issues of Transformers Armada, as well as the important War Within: The Dark Ages miniseries. Comics were an area of major expansion, as both Dreamwave and Devil’s Due published G.I. Joe VS Transformers crossovers, the first in over 10 years. The UK even got its own dedicated (but short lived) Transformers Armada comic from Panini. Even the toyline underwent expansion, with the new Transformers Universe line launching in June-July as a side-line running parallel to the Transformers Armada toyline, and a short-lived Wal-Mart exclusive Dinobots sideline.

Via Transformers Colombia we have a look at the Transformers Hero Mashers in package. Of interest is that the DX Optimus Prime and Bulkhead sets which come with more parts than the average Hero Masher specify that the additional parts they come with come from Ultra Magnus and Cliffjumper - a hint at things to come? Or merely a coincidence?

Via a posting on the Ragin Nation Facebook page, we now have a look at the Transformers Age of Extinction Construct Bots Dinobot Slash. Slash has not yet been officially announced by Hasbro, but the eagle eyed among you might have spotted him in the Toy Fair 2014 official photos for Dinobot Rider Hound. He is presumably a part of the second wave of Construct Bots Dinobots, as the first wave was previously confirmed as Slug, Strafe and Grimlock.

USA Today had the pleasure to talk with the legendary voice actor Peter Cullen about reprising his role as Optimus Prime for Michael Bay's Transformers: Age Of Extinction.
"He is exactly who he was from the very original concept," Cullen says of Prime. "I've always felt a hero should have the qualities that are inspiring and helpful and fatherly and at the same time (be) courageous. I don't see those character traits changing at all." "Though Larry's gone," Peter Cullen says, "he lives on in my mind as Optimus Prime because he was my hero." 30 years ago he became Optimus Prime and in a month's time we will hear Mr. Cullen again. |

First official Transformers: Age Of Extinction Toy Commercial has hit the Web. It's dubbed in Polish but we can get an idea of what kind of commercials we'll see this time around. The commercial is similar to the commercials of Generation 2 era.
This video features One Step Optimus Prime and Flip'n Change Grimlock: |

2004 was the 20th anniversary year of the Transformers and also a disastrous year for the brand. Toys were poorly distributed leading to a long period where very little new product made it to shelves, and two major licensors – Dreamwave Comics and 3H who ran the official convention – folded. On the positive side Hasbro and Takara pressed ahead with the Alternators / Binaltech line, a well-received collector-oriented line that reimagined classic Transformers are real cars with realistic detailing and interiors, and the 20th anniversary was marked with a special 20th anniversary Optimus Prime, whose production was aided by a fan poll hosted on this website! In Japan, the 20th anniversary Optimus Prime was released as Masterpiece MP-1 Convoy, kicking off the popular Masterpiece line.

It's time for another gallery update, and to coincide with our coverage of the Unicron Trilogy in our 30 years of Transformers in 30 days retrospective, we have a look at the Japanese Generations Armada Starscream for you!
Armada Starscream as you might remember is a Deluxe class update of the original Transformers Armada Starscream. For the Japanese release, Takara-Tomy has sharpened up the deco and making Armada Starscream look just like his Micron Legend self. It makes the Japanese release look like a very different toy to the US version and gives him a very white looking jet mode. Is the new deco an improvement in your eyes? Check out SydneyY's photos below and judge for yourself: Generations Armada Starscream (Takara-Tomy Version) Gallery |

3rd party group, Toyworld, has updated their website with new official colored images of their next release in their unofficial Headmaster releases. Revealed this evening is Swamper, an unofficial Generation 1 Skullcruncher! If this figure is on par with Toyworld's previous unofficial Headmaster releases, we're in store for a very big and beefy Decepticon crocodile. Swamper's robot mode appears to have two different chest transformations, one with the crocodile head and one without. As opposed to the original G1 release, the toy's Headmaster partner/trainer will ride in a compartment in his back as opposed to riding in his mouth.

Fantastic news has been shared with us from the Pacific Northwest this evening. We have our first sighting of new Generations toys found at a United States retail store! 2005 Board member, Sportimus, reports finding the new Generations Legend two packs, Swerve with Flanker and Cosmos with Payload at his local Target store in Spokane Valley, Washington. Many fans are looking forward to this wave. Mostly because of Swerve and his popularity in the More Than Meets The Eye IDW comic book series.
Time to start hunting those Target stores! Hopefully other retailers, including online retailers, will be getting their stock in soon! |

It was the year 2005, a year shockingly not marked by people donning silver jumpsuits or driving around in flaming winnebagos. What 2005 did bring was the third of the Unicron Trilogy series, Transformers Cybertron, which premiered first in Japan as Transformers Galaxy Force. New license holders abound too, as IDW Publishing took up the reins of Transformers comics, and Fun Publications took over running the conventions, restoring the original name Botcon and even getting a Transformers Collector’s Club set up, complete with exclusive toys. In addition, the Transformers live action movie got a director in the form of Michael Bay…

Thanks to Cybertron.ca and its board member stinky, we have good news confirming a release of Masterpiece Prowl for folks in Canada. The Canadian release was first reported earlier yesterday when an order page for MP Prowl was found on Canada's Toys R Us' website (unfortunately it's out of stock right now).
When this anticipated figure is released, be sure to utilize the sightings forums to help out your fellow collector here on TFW as well as on Cybertron.ca. |

Fun Publications have sent out an email update concerning the Transformers Collectors Club Figure Subscription Service Series 2. The second set of figures is currently being shipped to Fun Publication's headquarters in Dallas Texas, scheduled to reach them by the end of May.
All being well, this means that the second series will begin shipping out to fans starting in the first week of June - regrettably this does potentially mean the first figure might reach a few people while they are away at Botcon over the June 19th - 22nd weekend - so be aware of this possibility. The TCC Figure Subscription Service consists of six figures, to be sent out in a random order, and they are: Chromedome with Arms Micron Stylor, Rewind, Barricade with Arms Micron Frenzy, Treadshot with Arms Micron Catgut, Fisitron aka Ironfist and the Waspinator / Beast Machines Thrust hybrid, Thrustinator! A special mystery seventh figure will be sent out with the sixth figure to be shipped. Who will be the first to arrive? Keep it TFW and we'll keep you updated of when these cool figure exclusives make their way into the hands of fans everywhere! |
