Lol! Yeah, bit of a ramble. I see it as more like...

Seriously, I really don't expect most people to agree with me. They're some nice action figures wrapped in a nice message, and that's enough for most people. I'm just extra hard on stuff like this. Oh well.

Now I feel like some hamburgers...

£30 with free shipping.... probably the best it will be, unless it gets discounted later. Always a gamble though playing the waiting game.

Thought I'd share in case anyone was looking

You can get them a little bit cheaper on amazon.com - $20 plus the shipping works out at £26 or so.

The X-Men wave isn't officially released until the 15th April (I think, may be 13th) so you'll see it popping up in more places about that time.

I picked that Groot up at the weekend, not bad for £20/€30!

I think he has the best head sculpt of any of the comic Groots, not sure about the big hulk hands though, and I prefer him in his guardians uniform.

^Nice!

Anyone feel that customs have got worse with stuff bought from the US? I feel like some things used to get through, but now it's guaranteed to get extra charges.

I am done with stuff on eBay from there, it's just not worth it. Amazon.com is pretty good though so will still use that.

Anything over $30 automatically brings in a customs import charge.
In the late 90's import duty limit was raised to £18. When the recession hit ten years later they sneakily lowered it again to £15. So you can now import considerably less than 20 years ago! Along with the pound dropping because of Brexit (because currency value algorithms are tied to negative / positive headlines) and you can barely get anything imported without being charged (£15 is now about $18). However, these things tend to be more stringently applied on goods coming from the US than Asia. We also have a higher import limit when buying from Europe (for now...). If something is marked as a gift you can also import something with a value up to about £50, but you can only do it every so often.

Our system is not fit for purpose. Why pay postage for items that then can be held for ransome until you pay more? And why are you being charged ('handling fees') for someone to open something you don't want opened? And why, when an item is deemed to be above VAT level and chargeable, do you then pay VAT on the value and the shipping? We shouldn't pay VAT on shipping, the import limit should be more like £100, and certain items (those unavailable in the UK) should not be chargeable at all (IE: SDCC exclusives of toys that will never be released over here). There, I've just fixed the system. Unfortunately, I've also just lost HMRC hundreds of millions of pounds, and god forbid we shouldn't be taxed to high hell paying for government largesse, corruption, and cronyistic NGO's! After all, this is the government that just voted to allow governmental bodies access to people's internet history for any reason at all, and then immediately voted to exclude themselves from the same law like the CORRUPT SELF-SERVING SCUMBAGS THEY ARE!

Rant over.

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet

Taxman!
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
Cos I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

That has been my observation as well.

It may be incorrect... but it's cool!

Not a poem though...

I think if you take the time to read the labels when they arrive on your items, you'll find that it is the UK Border Force who are charging you on behalf of HMRC.

Speaking as an employee of the aforementioned organisation, it never ceases to amuse me when people moan about paying duty which they are legally required to pay in order to receive said items into the country, or discuss ways to circumvent it. If I actually knew who I could feed this back to in terms of 'intelligence', I would do so, trust me.

This post offends me greatly. As a result, I won't be posting on this forum again.

And a word to the wise - you never know who is lurking (and watching) on these forums.

I'm not really too worried who it is charging me. I accept being charged VAT or duty. What I object to is being charged it on shipping, and then being charged a 'handling fee' for the privilege of the whole thing.

What I really object to is that it makes it so hard to work out where the best place to buy something is, and whether I am prepared to pay that price.
