Hey gang, I love the sculpt on this Ultimate IronMan figure so much I thought he'd make a great custom project. So I proceeded to plan out the project and went ahead and disassembled the armor. I'm pretty good at LEDs and small electronics so I thought IM would be a natural for some LEDs. My PC crashed last year and I lost a ton of completed work, but I did find an old WIP pic of another 3 3/4 IM I lit up: I will be putting in LEDs in all the right places and making a custom light up "in flight" stand for him. Also I have these things in mind:
I also need some feedback and opinions on these issues: Should I light up these small dots (circled)? Some art shows them glowing , some doesn't. Also should I add LEDs in the forearm blasters? If so, what color? Red or blue seem like a nice way to not be so monotonous with all white, any suggestions? Last edited by BigHanksCustoms; 10-13-2011 at 09:03 PM.. |

Update time!! I got some work done on shellhead today. Wired up and installed all my LEDs. Had to cut out and fabricate a new Arc reactor in the chest. Can't really tell from the pic but I radiused the arc lens just like on the original. Heat formed the lens from a piece of bubble plastic off a figure card, glued in and reinforced with hot glue. I opted for orange LEDs on the forearm blasters (both arms) to differentiate them from the repulsor (left only) in the hand. Added a double ball jointed neck and retained the helmet swap ability and both heads light up fine. I'll be adding a Stark head as well. I need to do something to add some range of motion to the feet so I'll tackle that tomorrow. I need to route all the wiring to the switch and batteries (in the torso, replaceable). After hes all buttoned up I'll head to the paint booth! Enjoy and feel free to critique, comment, or ask any questions. |

For my first post here, I have to say you're work is pretty damn good and I thought I was good with LED's. Badass custom job dude... btw, is he from the IM2 line? I remember he was supposed to come out but this is the first time I seen it anywhere other than the back of the card. |
