I don't know about elsewhere, but around here the cartoon didn't get anywhere near the play that the Lion Force did so most of the kids I knew didn't even know about it. Used to see him sit in Toys R Us for months. Got mine one Christmas used to be one of my favorite toys.

Poor advertising of the show was what hurt his popularity where I lived.

Once I learned of them (via European bootleg toys), I liked the vehicle version more.

The lions were always my favorite, but I also enjoyed playing with the vehicle Voltron, as well. I don't know, I guess robotic lions just appealed more to me than the vehicles did. I also liked the show's storyline for the lion Voltron better.

I actually picked up a ko of this toy many years ago (for $1.50 no less!). I always really liked this toy, even though I never owned one until I bought the ko. I'd say that the lack of love is due to not being hyped us as much as the Lion Voltron toy (e.g., lack of cartroon-mercial like the Lion Voltron enjoyed).

big smile to my face right now. mattel is really trying to rack up all 80s childhood favorites (the non-hasbro ones of course). i just hope the distribution and prices wont be as hell like all other existing toy lines from mattel....oh wait...

Distribution for their WWE line is so much better than DCUC, so I think Voltron might actually be easy to find *crosses fingers*.

Optimistic. Voltron, like Thundercats, was long overdue for a new take that was worthwhile. I look forward to seeing what they can turn out.

idk I'm not too optimistic I mean mattel does a shitty job when it comes to figures their detail is in the low class and they were left behind by hasbro...If the figures are sculpted like the 3.75 dc universe figures their gonna blow big time.

not good in my opinion...until we see prototypes

They are familiar with big Japanese Robot toys...they brought over some of the Godaikins and Jumbo Machinders back in the day, and did release some Voltron toys back int he 80's, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Well it really depends on which Mattel division(s) is handling Voltron. Are they giving it to an existing team, bringing in new personnel, creating a new team of existing employees?

i agree on the 3.75 DC .. but beyond that, mattel's detail blows anything hasbro has to offer.. especially their movie masters line. their motu classics are very well detailed as well. while hasbro can barely release anything other than 3.75 line and even some of those have the worst details ever like the spiderman and x-men origins wolverine figs.

and as shin densetsu mentioned, mattel is no stranger to voltron. its just that really im afraid that this may end up practically hard to find and very expensive

I've been waiting for 4 inch Voltron figures forever. Now I can look forward to DCIH or Avatar style toys--If I'm lucky. Why? Oh, why?

That's true. I'm hoping that whomever it is wants great quality toys that surpass previous versions and will try their best not to compromise even under budgetary constraints. One thing that has always remained consistent with Voltron is that most of the toys are fun to play with.

This reminds me of the time I spent during childhood playing with the old LJN Voltron which could seat pilots inside, and the time Trendmasters made a $60 HUGE Voltron that could fit GI Joe size figures within and looked like a giant plastic version of the original Godaikin release(albeit gimmicked out).

I REALLY wish I didn't pass on that one. One of my regrets back in those days, around the same time I passed on most of Beast Wars too(which I came to regret as well).

Only if it was Bandai Japan man, only then would we have a chance at SOC-style Go Lion Voltron. I've seen what Bandai America has done in the last years and Gundam in the US as a toyline died under them. Same with Knights of the Zodiac and other cool lines.

Mattel would be great for Thundercats provided the 4H were in charge for sculpting.

I hope the Mattel Voltron is great. The Toynami Masterpiece version raised the bar with it's full articulation and slimmer aesthetic. Here's to hoping Mattel raises the bar too.

I have no opinion till I see the toys.

I am kicking myself for missing out on the Trendmasters 5 inch stealth and regular voltron action figures though.
