I REALLY wish I didn't pass on that one. One of my regrets back in those days, around the same time I passed on most of Beast Wars too(which I came to regret as well).
I have one of those. Really fun toy on its own (or with Joes) but it sucks with the 3.75" Voltron figures released at the same time. IIRC the box art for both Voltron and the figures showed it working with him, but never showed him with the cockpits closed.

Now I'm curious if Mattel would be willing to do anything on that scale, since it is my favorite Voltron figure, along with the die-cast one released around the same time. I should take some pics of those guys sometime.

We swear that if its gonna be really hard to get the voltron parts before they sell out like it was for MOTUC when the line started we are gonna burn anything related to mattycollector to the ground

The size of the figures makes me really, really skeptical of the long-term viability of the figures. The sheer weight is going to be a really big problem, unless the connectors are absolutely flawlessly designed and executed. Color me interested, but cautiously so.

I was never a Voltron collector as a kid (although I always wanted some), so I didn't think I would collect these. That said, if this ends up being as cool as it sounds, I don't think I can say no.

True, hopefully ratchet/detent joints are strategically placed to balance it out. The toynami MPC had somewhat loose ones and that's detrimental to posing if diecast is involved.

I have the same concerns, how they pull this off will make or break the series for me, it's the most ambitious attempt at creating a transformable voltron figure yet. Being a mattycollector exclusive initially, gives me hope that mattel is emphasizing focus on collecftors and thus giving us what we want as opposed to making compromises for walmart.

All in all, you're paying the same price for this as the diecast MPC Voltron but this will be exponentially bigger and possibly more articulated, heavier, and the addition of articulated pilot figures is greatly appreciated. Thing is I haven't seen mattel pull anything like this off, so I'm cautiously optimistic. This could be GREAT if executed well.

Color me intrigued, but I have the same reservations as Shin and Joe. I already have a large, transforming plastic version of Go-Lion and a smaller, transforming die-cast version of him, so I suppose I could manage with this one.

But it would be really f-ing cool to have, if Matty can pull it off,

If it fails and I don't want to it'll be good as a door jam or paper weight. LOL Still we need more information, hell pictures to see this in action...sorta.

I agree to be honest I was surprised mattel didn't show this off at toy fair.

I used to regret passing on the Trendmasters 1.5ft tall Voltron back in the late 90's, if this thing surpasses it in every way, I won't feel so bad!

sounds really interesting. Hope we get something smaller (more of a voyager size), that's super posable and splits into the separate lions.

the way matty collector works, I'll bet it'll be almost imposable to get a full set of these.

I think we will, most kids won't be able to snag the huge one. If both turn out well I'd buy both.

The worst part of this announcement is the whole MattyCollector thing. If you buy MOTUC, DC or Ghost Busters from them then you know how crappy their shipping/logistics is.

Other than that I'm still eager to see how Mattel tries to pull this off.

I remember when TRU in my area clearanced a die cast voltron set and I never got it. I was fairly bummed. This kind of sounds too good to be true.

I am a big fan of larger scale figures. I always feel they make the figures come to life more than the smaller scale. With that said, 2-3 feet?? This thing is going to be taller than fort max?? Seems a bit much doesn't it? And die-cast? How much is this thing going to weigh? I can't imagine what shipping would cost.

The toy sounds great, but will Mattel replace the Heroic Cross on his chest with an Asterisk like they did to He-Man???

Doubt it, it's iconic. The cross IIRC was a symbol for the King, Princess Allura's dad. Plus Mattel doesn't own Voltron, they just have the license from World Event Productions to make the toys. I don't think WEP is going to sign off on Mattel refraining from keeping the sign.

I can't wait to get my hands on a new voltron 6'' figure. I'm still kicking myself for missing out on the trendmasters galaxy guardian stealth voltron(that design had no cross).

It really depends to me on how the show does. Overall, I'm really reserved on the show. Not fond of the animation style they chose, and this entire idea of new 'cadets' that help the team unlock new voltron power-ups has me slightly concerned. They could be neat, or they could just be bleh. The various voltron types could all vary in design and aesthetic though, including with or without the cross or other iconic natures. It wouldn't be the first time (Voltron the third dimension's stealth form having the V insignia instead).

*edit*
Well the show premiered.
Really digging Voltron himself, but still hating the character designs for the people and the animation style used. Overall though, it's not bad.
Watching it now on nicktoons.com. They have 3 full episodes up.

http://youtu.be/E796cjH-YeY If you want to check out the formation sequence.

I've seen a few of the recent Voltron Force episodes and found myself excited for the figures to come out... As much as I *despise* the opening theme, am leery of the story (really? Another cartoon that brings *KIDS* into the mix!?!?!); I'm looking forward to the actual Voltron figure itself...

Something about the updated design works for me, though I have yet to see it actually realized in plastic yet...

Have there been any news on a toyline for this series?
