Okay...most of the DC Super Heroes stuff was meh until they got to the Batgirl costume. Whoever green lit that deserves an award. So cool. My little one is gonna love that.

The Batman movie vehicles? Amazing as well. I love that they actually made a Lego Calendar Man.

When asked about their involvement with Wonder Woman, Randy from NECA said:

Interesting to see Mattel will now be making Teen Titans Go toys. Maybe they can make a figure of Raven that doesn't look derpy...

It's not a love affair. It's Mattel writing a bigger fatter check than anyone else and producing toys for kids, who will be the target for the majority of the products.

Don't get your hopes too high. Mattel hasn't done 4" scaled figures for a new DC movie since Man of Steel, and I doubt that'll change this year. If we get new movie figures at that scale, I would expect them to be from Funko. Like that line of figures they made for Suicide Squad.

I wish they could somehow divide the DC license so that Mattel can make all the kid-oriented toys they want and let someone else like NECA do adult-oriented figures in any scale they want.

how is this any different than marvel/hasbro?
(i realize hasbro took over ML from Toybiz)

its not really a love affair as much as it's just a simple licensing agreement?

i agree with what the one guy said. i'd like NECA to take a BETTER crack at some of the DC properties.
i say better because im sorry but that DVD edition Heath Ledger Joker had googly eyes like Crow T. Robot from MST3K, at least the 7 that were at my local TRU all had wonky eyes

I completely get that, but like Wonderful Toys stated, it'd be nice to get the master license away from Mattel, so that other companies could make 6-7" lines. Yes, I mean NECA, because they actually care about the products they release. Mattel's offerings are just plain bad. DC must not care how they are represented in the major retail market, as long as they get their big, fat check. It's a shame. One way to solve that problem would be to start selling DC Collectibles widespread, but I know they have no interest in that.

My only hope for a 3.75 inch line in the press release is where they say:

"Global master toy licensee Mattel will be developing an empowering line, including action figures inspired by the most iconic Super Heroes and Super-Villains, PLAYSETS, VEHICLES..."

While I did love the $9.99 "kid oriented" six inch figures (I'd say even more than the Multiverse ones) for JL I honestly feel 3.75 would be a better scale for kids... Granted the press release also says collector oriented figures which I'm sure there will be more 6inch Multiverse figures but I really hope they come up with a 3.75 line for JL.

It makes economical sense for parents... You have 7 main characters for JL, the cost for the Six inch kid figures priced at $9.99, that's a pretty big chunk of change for families. Now of course this is thinking they are going to have Parademons and Steppenwolf because you would have to have villains for kids to battle. For the whole collection that's serious money.

If they gave us all those figures, in the 3.75 scale priced at $7.99, it makes parents a little more willing to open their wallets for more than just one or two figures. From there, playsets and vehicles seem like a no brainer, the scale is perfect to incorporate all these characters. Besides the Batmobile, isn't Batman supposed to have some new flying fortress? Making that for six inch scale would be way huge and costly.

I keep thinking of the BVS rollout, and the case assortments baffled me. Granted, Batman is WB's money maker but when you can't find Superman on shelves and the movie is called Batman V Superman, who are the kid's Batman figure supposed to fight? Another Batman figure?

I just think 3.75 would be the perfect scale for JL because of the amount of characters, environments and vehcicles. As much as I miss the SA Star Wars 3.75 line, I did like the Rogue One 5POA line of figures. Some where hit and miss but overall, the sculpts were good and the price was very attractive for most families.

I guess we will just have to wait and see....I miss the glory days of 3.75 inch figures...

Unfortunately, NECA has said they would never want the DC master toy license. DC (and Marvel) wants stuff specifically aimed at kids, and it's not NECA's area. Really, the only 2 choices for a master toy license like DC and Marvel is Mattel or Hasbro. You need a big, big bank account with a large workforce to to do stuff at every size class and potential age market, or sub-license to numerous companies to do so.

That varies by property, but the larger the brand, the more age brackets you need to market to. That's why there's sub-licenses now, where potential competitors are working together. Using NECA as an example, it's how their sub-license for TMNT works. They can't make stuff that acts as a direct competitor to Playmates stuff. Even if fans see it as a different market, Nick and Playmates don't necessarily agree.

Licensing is a complicated mess. I deal with it myself, and it's a nightmare. And I'm only doing stuff with photography, music and video for advertising.

I only ever saw one Joker with bad eyes, the rest (including the one I ordered) were great. The Batman they just did had a higher chance for bad eyes but even then I found plenty that were acceptable.

LEGO's been doing minifigure costumes since last Halloween. The first ones were for Ninjago and Nexo Knights, two of their original IPs.

I agree with you, Mattel's are simply awful. They don't give a damn anymore. Also, lately Warner Bros prove to have bad judgement...

Actually Mattel doing quite bad, their products aren't selling as much as in the past, except for Imaginext which the only toyline left they actually care about it's products quailty. I think Playmates now is doing the best for an American playline toy company, since they actually put effort in the products (at least in more products then most toy companies do) and give value for your money. The new Voltron line is a great exmple for that.

NECA wouldn't fit as replacement for Mattel since they aren't making Playline toys. I wish some smaller/another toy company would get the DC license and unlike Mattel actually be grateful for the opportunity that fell right into their hands and use it properly!

I actually meant, split the master license up. Let Mattel handle the kiddie stuff and a real company take a shot at collectibles in the mass market. As I said, it would all be solved if DC Collectibles would step up and get into the big box stores.

No, Kids deserve better toys then this. the DC license should be left only for Imaginext.

Yeah, I can't argue with you. I have a 10 year old that won't touch the stuff. The look of absolute terror on his face when he saw Mattel's Suicide Squad Harley Quinn was priceless, though. He's too old for Imaginext now, but he did have quite a collection some years back.

I hate to say it, because I loathe Marvel, but Hasbro seems to be doing a pretty good job for them. And what they were lacking early on, they seem to have made strides to fix. You'd think DC would look at the difference in demand and market and want to compete better. Oh well, all it really means is that I have more money for NECA & DCC and can continue not even bothering with Walmart, Target, etc. I shop at TRU & online stores.

Oh, I can definitely imagine that. I found out that Bandai Japan makes some great playline action figures, they're quite expensive I have to admit, but worth the price. I just got Kaman Rider Brave, he cost about 25$ when I bought him and he is beautifully sculpted and painted, well articulated and have very soiled feeling. It may be just 5$ more then Marvel Legends, but it's at least 10 times better in quailty terms. Maybe you could find some good toys for your kids in the new toy department of hobby search HobbySearch Toy Store

I don't loathe Marvel, but I sure love DC more and it's indeed sucks how DC toys are inferior.

Unfortunately with Mattel and Hasbro monopoly on the toy market, they don't have much of a reason to compete better:/. On the bright side, though, I think at some point Mattel and other deteriorating toy companies will have to step up their game or go bankrupt.

Yeah, more money for actual well made toys.

Mattel is/was the biggest toy company in the world, Lego is the only company close to or just now passing them.
(Bandai Namco is 3rd but that includes their huge video game division)
Hasbro is a few billion behind and the next is Jakks with far less than than 1/4th of them in the high millions.

Nah, LEGO surpassed Mattel all the way back in mid-to-late 2014. Also, if I remember correctly, Hasbro was close to, if not already, surpassing Mattel in, like, late 2015 or early 2016, if only due to acquiring the Disney Princess license.
