Hello; I'm new to the whole Medicom Toys/MAFEX & Bandai Japan/S.H.Figuarts lines and was just wondering...

Which of the aforementioned 2, if you could only choose one, has the better paint applications, sculpting, articulation, etc., overall? Or, is it more of a personal preference situation?

I'm thinking of getting into one of them but not sure which one though, that's all.

I generally go with figuarts. Their figures tend to be more solid. Mafex figures can be a little loose.

I own multiple Figuarts but haven't touched a single Mafex figure so I can't give you any input on what is better.

I can tell you that Figuarts are great but without the proper comparison that would be pretty useless to you, sorry

I like Mafex but it's quality control leaves alot to be desired. Easily falls apart... that alone makes me prefer S.H. Figuarts.

As what warmachine6 mentioned, watch both SHF and MAFEX figures reviews on YouTube, you will know which you prefer yourself. If you are not a completist and fine by a mixture of both, you can get the best of both worlds.

My MAFEX Supes is plagued with loose joints and a crotch peg that doesn't extend down at all, and eventually due to posing for toy photography it broke. I fixed it with another crotch peg from a bootleg MAFEX + some dremeling. MAFEX is upping their game for recent releases, tighter joints (lookup SHF and MAFEX Deadshot). When people refer to MAFEX QC issues, they're referring to broken wrist pegs and loose joints, some reviewers even broke the wrist pegs during reviews. Do use the hairdryer method on the tight joints when in boxing. I do this for every figure I unbox, to prevent joints from snapping.

SHF dot printing technique is a hit or miss thingy. I prefer SHF Harley to MAFEX Harley, MAFEX Suits version Joker to SHF Suits Joker, but that's subjective to my preference. Also do take note that SHF scales on the smaller side.

My DCEU collection currently:
MAFEX - BVS Regular Batman, BVS Armored Batman, BVS Knightmare Batman, BVS Superman, BVS Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad Suits Joker, Suicide Squad Deadshot
SHF - Harley Quinn

Misc - SHF Bruce Lee

I love both MAFEX and SHF for my toy photography, so I take in headsculpt and poseability into my consideration. You will have to establish your purpose for the purchase. For a fuss-free experience for collection, I suggest to incline more to the SHF side. Hope that helps!

I was actually looking into getting a Deadshot figure from one of those companies/series. The more research I do, the more I'm looking towards the S.H.Figuarts version. I guess, MAFEX has joint/peg issues from what I'm gathering?

For Deadshot, both are good. Loose pegs issue not in MAFEX Deadshot.
More to which size to blend with your existing collection.

I think I prefer the Mafex as it looks more natural/weathered. Although I have the Mafex Batman and it has loose knee joints which is a bit annoying.
