Here's an article I thought you guys would like:
Slideshow: The cost of one man's Star Wars obsession : Bundle
It really got me thinking. This dude says he's spent about $3K on Star Wars stuff. I wonder how much I've spent on my various collections? I've probably spent *gulp* over a grand on Marvel Universe alone this year.

In the past couple of years for me, probably close to a grand maybe 3.
That includes MU, Transformers, DC, legos, GI Joes, and imports.

In my lifetime of collecting though? Oh jeez, um, more than any man ever should.

I'm probably pushing $1000, maybe $1500 this year. Lifetime is easily around $20-30K, but probably a lot more.

About 85-90% of that is Transformers, but I've also spent money on G.I.Joe, Marvel Universe, Iron Man 2, Minimates, Mighty Muggs and a couple other trinkets this year.

I don't even want to think about how many toy lines I've bought during my life.

Hmm...If I include my Games Workshop addiction along with various other collections, 50-60 grand maybe? Easily 300-500 a month for the last twenty years.

wow man to pricetb... I've unfortunatley sold off a lot of my childhood toys for far less then worth and still maintain a good size collection,.. i would like to spend $40-100/month or more depending on whats there and how bad I need it... i'd say if i had all my toys from childhood I would of had 20k easy... tons of g1 transformers, beastwars, ghostbuster, tmnt, etc.. I still have a tub full of figures I'd like to get rid of to buy more marvel inspired stuff

Way too much. But then it's probably not fair to compare the hole that I dug myself into to regular collecting...

My wife asked me this question last night. I would say overall my collection is worth more than 10k but I haven't spent quite that much. I probably spend $1,000 a year +/- a couple hundred. I try to limit myself to $60/month in standard purchases but allow for a few bigger items when the mood strikes me. I typically sell off old stuff if i am buying something for more than $100.
