Hello everyone, I am new to the toyark and this is my first thread! I am curious to ask my fellow collectors: what is your first toy piece? What got your collection rolling? Mine was the 80s Secret Wars line, especially the Black Spiderman. To see the comic come to life..well I've never been the same. Check out a pic on my website... Pride and Toys: Where did it all start?? Thanks all and happy hunting! |

I don't recall which specific toy per-say, but for me it was the mid to late 90s star wars line. A friend of mine in high school had all the original 80s toys, so when they came out with the special edition, he brought them all out and displayed them in his room. I was jealous. I wanted to do the same and this line let me do that. I got tons of figures, and mostly all the vehicles. Once that sort of died down, college started and I stopped collecting anything. Then my friend introduced me to Beast Wars and TM Primal. The transformers bug bit me and I went out and got tons of them. Then comes ebay.......and well the rest is history.

The first toy I remember getting was a POTF X-Wing Pilot Luke Skywalker that my dad got while he was TDY once. Unfortunately, Luke never made it out of my childhood, along with a number of other SW toys I had when I was really young. EDIT: I completely forgot about the Mego Spider-Man I had when I was a toddler. The only reason I still remember it, is because I would get into fights with my sister any time she picked it up when I wasn't holding it (which was NOT often). Sadly, he also went the way of the garage sale several years ago. The first toy I got that is still in my collection is my G1 Soundwave, who I affectionately refer to as my "battle-damaged" version (Blaster did a number on his chest piece).

One of the first figures I remember having was Copper Kid from Silverhawks. I carried him with me everywhere I went. Amazingly, I still have him today along with his wings and the hawk whistle accessory, and only minor wear on his metallic paint job. I also remember getting the Magneto and Storm figures from the first X-Men line from Toy Biz. That began a massive collection that continues today with Marvel Legends, and I've even reluctantly given in and bought my first Marvel Universe figure last week (Ms. Marvel). And I have fond memories of minibot Bumblebee, Young Tygra, Pretender Starscream, Shredder, gold-masked Destro, the Ghostbusters firehouse, and so many others. |

I can't really say what my first was but I was thinking about it and I do remember the collections which made the most impact on my childhood days. They are in no particular order though. Mego 8" Superhero dolls/figures Star Wars, the original line from the 70's and 80's GI JOE, again the original 80's versions Transformers G1 Johnny West cowboys from the late 60's and early 70's Had alot of other collections I dabbled in like Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, TMNT, Inhumanoids, Thundercats, Silverhawks, and more but the above are the ones that really were my favs and made the most impact. Sadly a tornado at my mom's house robbed me of my Star Wars and Johnny West stuff and as a teenager I made the mistake of selling off my Transformers and GI JOE. That is a huge regret now. |

So many lines got me going but I would say it wasn't until I got the Black Costume Spiderman from Secret Wars that I really got serious about collecting. I was into lots of lines, Star Wars, Transformers, etc. Many times I wore them out but that one figure I've only touched maybe a dozen times over the years.

The first toy I really remember playing with was one of those bendable Bart Simpson figures. I took it everywhere with me. After that I distinctly remember Ambush being my first GI Joe.. At least the first I remembered. Anyway, he was the second toy I remember having. |

For Star Wars it was the BMF that got me back into it after a long absence.

I’m not sure what the first piece to my collection was. I think I was collecting without realizing I was a collector in the beginning. Most of it started with Kenner’s The Dark Knight Collection. My oldest piece is one of the two original 1960’s G.I. Joe’s I had as a kid and the Space Capsule. The original Spacesuit survived too, although all of it was beaten up and marked on from being played with. As a kid I even painted over the clear plastic “hatch” to make it more accurate to the Mercury Space Capsule. |

I had the G.I. Joe's from the 70's. I still have the Gorilla from one of the safari type adventures, and one metal boot from the treasure diving adventure set. I loved the realism of the clothes and accessories. I also had many characters from the mego superheroes; the Hulk, the Thing, The Falcon, Capt. America, Thor, Conan, The Lizard, Human Torch, Robin, Aquaman, Capt. Marvel(Shazam) were some of them.

I cant believe it but I still have it...1979 Pocket Super Heroes Spider-Man. My 1st GI Joe was Short-Fuse and I still have it (He is certainly busted the hell up though)!!! My love for action figures truely began though when my Dad took me to Kiddie City and I got Chewbacca after seeing EP IV for the 1st time (I was 4, it must have been re-released because it was 1982)...The rest is history. My 1st Transformer was a Jumpstarter. I had an incredible Transformers collection in the 80's and it was sold at a yard sale when I went to college. I have been rebuilding it one piece at a time ever since...
