Who here collects Star Wars Transformers(SWTF's)? I bought a few but gave up. I have the following, some, regrettably:
  • Luke X-Wing
  • Saesee Tin
  • Commander Cody
  • ARC-170 with Shark teeth
  • DEATH STAR Vader
The ARC-170 looks great but was not secure at all. Very disappointed. A lemon even. Commander Cody is very sturdy but the range of motion is blocked a lot. Saesee Tin....dig the armor gimmick, hate how the shoulders are blocked. Luke...should have never bought.

Death Star Darth Vader is fucking amazing. In addition, I like the electronic gimmicks. Something that is not only well articulated, but just fun to tinker with. By far the best SWTF and none yet, has come close in the line.

I haven't bought an SWTF in over a year. What are the best ones in your opinion? I heard the Grievous Starfighter is good. The Darth Vader TIE Fighter has a neck that is too high. Anyone like it?

I have all the figure you listed plus Tie-Fighter Darth, the Jedi Starfighters, Boba and Jango Fett, Darth Maul, the original Grievious, Han/Chewie Falcon plus Palpatine, and I intend to get Yoda when I see him.

I really like the Jedi Starfighters (the Jedi 'seekers'), but Boba and Jango Fett are probably the most offensive transforming toys I've ever experienced. As far as I'm concerned they don't actually transform. I bought the original ARC 170 figure, sold it because the robot mode was crap, then bought the Shark Teeth deco because I like the vehicle look (again, it 'doesn't' transform). The rest are pretty much okay.

They're not great certainly, but they're just right for me - I wanted toys of the main Star Wars characters and vehicles, but not at the 3.75 inch scale (or price). I bought miniatures of the characters and then got the vehicles as Transformers, they're roughly in scale. That they transform is just an interesting bonus!

I've collected quite a few SWTFs now and I would agree the line is a lot of hit-or-miss. But there are some real gems in the line, too. Most of the time I'll just get it for the vehicles, but sometimes it's for the character (Yoda).

I have Death Star/Vader, Falcon/Han & Chewie, TIE Advanced/Vader, TIE Bomber/Pilot, X-Wing/Luke, Snowspeeder/Luke, Slave I/Boba, Imperial Shuttle/Palpatine, AT-AT/Driver, Soulless One/Grievous, AAT/Droid Cmdr., Turbo Tank/Cmdr. Cody, Jedi Starfighter/Saesee Tiin, Sith Starfighter/Vader[Anakin], ARC-170/Clone, Gunship/Clone, Y-Wing Bomber/Clone, and most recently Attack Cruiser/Yoda.

Based on what I have, here is a list of I consider the good ones: Death Star, Falcon, Yoda, Soulless One, Y-Wing and TIE Bomber. I like the look of Cody's robot mode, but it's basically a shellformer, so of course the robot will look good. Some SW vehicles just don't translate that well to a robotic form, while others seem to be made for it.

The biggest issue with these is not so much the robot or the vehicles, but the sometimes cheap feel to them. Some of the peg/hole pairings are slightly mismatched so certain forms don't hold together very well (hole will be loose and not hold the peg, or the peg will be so tight friction forces it out). Other times, clearance is an issue when transforming.

Anyway, that was my semi-lucid ramblings.
